Can anyone suggest me sources for Omega 3 fatty acids? Basically I want to raise my HDL. Overall cholesterol is low, but the HDL is low too, which makes the ratio higher (not good).
I am a vegetarian with an exception of eggs. Also I am trying to loose my pregnancy weight, so no weight gaining options for me...
Thanks..

Chia Seeds!!!
I learned of chia seeds and the many health benefits of consuming them, such as the very high anti-oxidant content, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein, a little more than a month ago.
I have taken them off and on during that time, either in a protein drink (8oz water, 2 teaspoons chia seeds, 2 teaspoons lime juice and honey to taste) or in my oatmeal. They were regarded as a super food among the ancient Aztecs. They are reported to give you increased energy and endurance, boost metabolism, improve sluggish immune systems and are a fabulous alternative for vegetarians and vegans.
They can be purchased from any wholefoods/natural grocer (health food store) or online in bulk.
Hope this helps.0 -
mono and poly fatty acids includeeee
almonds, walnut, chia, soy(poly)
fish oil tablets(poly)
avacados and olive oil (mono)
Easy ones0 -
PS: The yolk of the egg (in excess) will raise your bad LDLs because it is an animal bi-product.
AS humans we produce our OWN HDL...but to lower bad LDL its is wise to use omega 3s instead of meds... I loveeee that!!!
Also adding in some more soluble fiber will help! (oatmeal and such)
Gotta clean out our livers to allow the Good HDL to return and be flushed!
If you need a little more info message me!0 -

I just googled them and ordered them online. They're similar to a poppy seed and have hardly any taste. I add them to my oatmeal in the morning, on my salad at lunch and to my grain at dinner. You can bake them into anything..they're like the super food of super foods (-:0

Seeds in general seem to have a good ammount. Virgin pressed Rapeseed oil aparently has the magic ratio of Omega 6 - Omega 3 (2:1) which is apparently the "optimum" level for those particular acids to work at.
If you can't eat enough seeds and cook with enough oil might I suggest you find yourself a supplier of vegetarian Omega 3 supplements because they are out there. I'm not a vegetarian but I really cannot stomach the taste of fish at all and find that when I take fish oil supplements it's all I can taste for the rest of the day if I belch or hiccup, so I take vegetarian Omega 3 supplements that constitute of a little capsule that looks just like a cod liver oil capsule but is full of Evening Primrose Oil, Rapeseed Oil and Linseed (flaxseed) Oil. I don't know where you are in the world; I'm in the UK, and I pick that up from ASDA...if you're on the other side of the pond I'd suggest looking in walmart since ASDA is owned by walmart!
As much as I don't, In general, like to get my nutrition from a pill, I find it easier to take these as I can never find a cheap enough source of seeds enough to keep my levels up, and I really don't cook with oil anymore.
I believe there are some other varieties of vegetarian omega 3 supplements if you want to go down that road, made from algae (which is where fish get theirs from!) so either way it's not impossible to find a vegetarian supplement, especially as they all seem to be branded as such to get the attention of the vegetarian market!0
