Increasing my endurance...

Hello...I'm a newbie to biking or is it called cycling. I've been biking 6.1 miles with my boyfriend every weekend and I wanted to increase my endurance. Ya know, so I don't have to walk up the hills and I'm not huffing and puffing up the rideable ones. So, I've started using the stationary upright bike at the gym every other day...this is week2 of my new workout schedule. It's fun for me because I'm trying to increase my endurance level to keep up with my boyfriend. However, my HRM says when we bike that my HR is anywhere from 130-152 on the flat areas and on the hills it goes from 152-180. At 180, I felt like I was going to vomit and/or pass out. Thankfully, I just took some big sips of my water and my HR cooled down.
So...any advice for me on how to increase my endurance level for a newbie to cycling/biking?
Thanks in advance...:flowerforyou:

Getting a better feel for your bike's gearing will help with the hills quite a bit. If you're in too high a gear you'll obviously struggle, but you also need to be careful to not drop too low; there's less resistance, but you have to pedal so fast just to stay upright that you'll tire out quickly.0
