Fitness Wrist Band

I have been researching fitness wrist brands to help keep track of my activity. Do any of you own one? If so, what do you like or not like about them? I've been looking into the Jawbone Up, the Fitbit, or Nike Fuel Band.

    I have the Fitbit 'clip on'.... and love it.....no wrist band tho....sorry!

    I have a fitbit one. I know a few people who don't like the wristband trackers because they actually track from arm movement, so if you don't move your arms a lot when you walk or if you sit down and move your arms, it'll count as steps. Is there a reason you want a wrist band and not a clip on?

  • Well I liked the wrist band in the Fitbit because it tracked your sleep pattern.

    I got the Nike Fuel Band for Christmas and I have used it every day since. I love it!

    Things that I don't love about it? I know that it is not exaclty the most accurate device when it counts calories burned because it does not include a HRM, but it is pretty darn close and it is very consistent.

    Nike takes great pride in their product. The original band that I received suddenly decided to "die" on me.... they replaced it.... no questions asked. I appreciate that very much. Not only is the product great and cool looking, but the company backs it up.... 100% to be a quality piece to last you for a long time.

    Best Christmas present that I've gotten as an adult.

    my husband loves his Nike fuel band, and i must say i kinda want one too now after seeing it in action!

    I've used a Jawbone UP band, and I liked it for a while, but it glitched on me once and then completely stopped working after just a couple months. I was gentle, but I guess it was very fragile. After that, I bought a Fitbit One, which I lovelovelove. A friend of mine has a Fitbit Flex and loves it... he switched from a Nike Fuelband for reasons I don't know.

    The fitbit one tracks sleep. The fitbit wristband you're referring to is called the Flex and it doesn't count stairs.

    I've had both the Fitbit One and now the Fitbit Flex. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of washing my Fitbit One and it went belly up. The advantage of the Fitbit One is that you can more easily see your stats on the device itself and it also tracks stairs. The Fitbit Flex has has the illuminated lights to indicate progress. That being said, I absolutely love the Fitbit Flex. It is water resistant and I don't worry about it becoming unclipped from my clothing.

    I've synced MFP with my Fitbit and love that the information the two of them provide.

    I've had a Nike Fuel Band for a year, and I'm a fan overall. It's easy and unobtrusive to wear, and I like to be able to see patterns in my activity. I know a lot of people love the FitBit wrist band, which seems very similar, and lets you track sleep patterns as well...and I believe you can get an app in the MFP App Center that lets the FitBit automatically transfer all your activity automatically into MyFitnessPal (something that's missing with the Nike Fuel Band).

    Drawback of the Fuel Band, which I believe is likely to be a drawback for the FitBit wrist band and any motion-based wrist band: activity is very reliant on arm movement. If you're running a lot (which is my main workout), no big problem. But if you cycle, for instance, not so much. Or if you do a lot of leg/core strength training you want to track as calorie burns, not so much. I've even noticed it doesn't track elliptical workouts all that well; a half-hour run always gets me more Nike Fuel than a full hour of intervals on the elliptical, even though I know the hour-long elliptical workout actually burns more calories.

    Also, the main tracking mechanism for the Nike Fuel Band is "Nike Fuel," which isn't very intuitive. Alhough the band will track calories, all of your uploads and data will always be stated in terms of "Nike Fuel" points. In broad terms, about 2 Nike Fuel Points equate to 1 calorie, from my experience.

    Before the fuel band, I had the old clip-style FitBit, which I liked quite a bit...but I ended up losing three of them before I decided I needed a wrist band. Had the FitBit wrist band been available at the time, I would have considered it.
