Water filters?

I'm a huge water drinker, but I am also the person that buys massive cases of water bottles at the grocery store.

We do recycle, but it would be nice to not even buy them.

I was just wondering if anyone on here uses water filters. Any suggestions for ones that I should look into? Ex: Attach to the tap/for the fridge.

Our city has particularly odd tasting water, its not terrible but you can definitely tell. Even people visiting point it out. Its a bit strange for sure.

Let me know what you recommend, or should I just keep purchasing/recycling throw away bottles.

Thanks :)

I like the taste of our local water just fine, but my other half is a bit more picky. We have a Brita water pitcher.

We have had great results using our Brita water pitcher. We use it for both drinking just as plain water as well as for cooking, coffee, tea, etc.

I personally think it is a waste to consume plastic water bottles even if they are recycled when something like a Birta pitcher is sufficient. With that being said, we do use some water bottles for spur of the moment on the go type of things (e.g. running, or outdoorsy stuff).

Just as a head's up, do be certain to replace the filters in a timely fashion. As they collect organics eventually you could experience something called break-through in which the filter is saturated with contaminants. After saturation, they, essentially, break thru the filter into what you may otherwise assume is a 'clean' serving of water. I want to say they last for ~3 months and should still be far, far cheaper than purchasing bottled water.

Thanks for the input! I definitely agree about it being a waste, but I just now started thinking about investing into a filter of some sort. Both of you suggested the water pitcher for the fridge so I'll look into that as well as one for the tap. I'm interested in the one for the tap because I would like to fill bottles to take on the go (preferably reusable!)

Thanks again both of you :)

You could always throw an under the sink RO to take care of your drinking water. I hate the things personally, but they're a not too expensive peace of mind.

I love my Brita filter. However, I go through so much water, then adding my husband to the mix the pitcher simply isn't big enough for us.

We have the bigger fridge shelf or countertop style one. On my own, I usually fill that things 3 times per week? Maybe more? Definitely worth the investment though. If you have a Costco near you, they usually have a good deal for the filters.

We use a Pur filter on the tap. It lets you know when the filter needs to be changed. I fill a pitcher to keep in the fridge and a bottle I carry with me all the time.

Please stop buying bottled water. It makes me cringe. Even if you recycle, its a huge waste of energy and resources, and think of the money you're wasting.

I have a brita filter on my tap. It was easy to install, and changing the filter is a breeze. It's not as "effective" as the jug filters because the water goes through the tap so fast, but there is definitely a noticeable difference in the taste of the water.

If you like bringing water with you, invest a few dollars into a reusable bottle. The bottles that bottled water come in are not meant to be reused.

I got my filter that attaches to the tap from HSN, no excuse not to drink water!

    Water quality and taste varies.

Houston, Tyler, and Dallas texas water tastes fine out of the faucet.

    San antonio tastes like ****

Please continue to filter out the flouride they put in your tap water, so that your dentist can afford that boat he wants.

Brita also does filter water bottles (£10 UK - Co-Op)

Personally water is water, I use a normal Volvic water bottle and just refill it right now (Only bought it because I left my water bottle - w/tap water at home!)

Brita Water Pitcher. I have to refill it 2-3 times daily. Coffee and tea has never tasted so good.

I drink both tap and filtered water but there is nothing more refreshing than a cold glass of Brita water, especially after a workout
