Building core strength; need advice

Due to DeQuervain's Syndrome (aka Blackberry Thumb) I can no longer bear weight on my wrist/thumb area to do planks. Are there any exercises that I can do to build core strength that would be as effective as planks? Would planks performed on my forearms still be effective?

Planks on forearms is a sphinx, so yes it would be effective. Have you tried push up stands? That might help your wrist.

Planks on the forearms are very effective! I find them even harder. You could also try to do spidermans while doing your planks. V ups as well.

Thanks! I looked up the sphinx plank and that's the way for me to go. I saw a pair of those push-up bars today actually, and considered them for a few minutes, but passed them up. I may go back and get a set tomorrow to try out!

Thank you for your reply! I see everyone is in agreement about doing planks on the forearms; I'm happy to know that is an option for me to succeed!
