fulfill daily calorie intake or to be hungry late at night

:ohwell: Hi All,

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere here.. If it's already posted.. apology for re-posting it.

I usually work out after work and I don't usually take my dinner before working out.. so by the time i ended working out (around 8-9 pm), my tummy will surely feel hungry ...

My daily intake at that time will usually be around 800kcal ++ or lower so I usually have a balance of 40kcal to fulfill my daily intake..
I know that it's not recommended tp eat lower than 1200kcal in a day and so far, i'm trying to eat at least that much (with or without work out).

My question, at around 9pm ... should I eat my dinner (it's considered late to have dinner at that time) and fulfill my daily calorie intake.. or should I take light snacks since it's already late?

Seek ur kind advise on this.. cos i'm not sure what should I do in order to loose weight healthily and not killing my metabolism ..

There's no such thing as eating too late. You're good to go. Definitely eat!
  • ahaa!! that's what I thought too.. but if I take something heavy like rice, i think my weight increase the next day ... but then again maybe it's due to water retention caused by other things as well... hmm need to monitor further :) ..

    Thanks :)

Agreed. The only reason to not eat late at night is if it affects the quality of your sleep.

you can definitely eat whenever you'd like. last night I ate my dinner at 10pm (had it all measured/weighed out but was not hungry until then) and this morning I was at the same weight I was yesterday. don't worry about "killing your metabolism", that whole idea is a crock. do make sure you're eating over 800 calories though especially if you're working out and hungry! :)
  • I'd recommend having a post-workout protein meal, good use of your calories and will help heal your muscles.

You can eat at whatever time you like. But I wonder why you only eat 800 calories a day. I am not one of those people who preach that you need to " eat a lot to lose a lot " , but 800 is really low.
I am 5 feet and old and even I get 1200 calories a day...and actually thrive on them and lose consistently.
I do not eat anything until around 1-2 pm and then eat all my calories within a 6-7 hour time span. My last meal is around 8 pm and my biggest one. This avoids me wasting my calories on unnecessary snacks and in my case luckily does not interfere with sleep.

Meal Frequency has absolutely no bearing on Weight loss..... Eat your caloric intake at anytime of the day, all at once at midnight, whatever works best for you...... Best of Luck

Got a little confused reading this part. Are you eating 840 calories per day, or 1200 calories per day?
And are you sure whatever number you are eating is enough for you specifically?

Eat any time of day, and eat to MEET your calorie goal.
If you weigh more on the scale the next morning, it's most likely water and the fact that your body is still digesting the food you just gave it.

    I assume it's a type-o...

She generally has eaten 800 to that point, with 400 left for the day (not 40) to get to a total of 1200.

I thought it was pretty simple, she ate 800 calories for breakfast and lunch and after working out she has a Net of 40 calories. She does not want to end with less than 1200 calories per day and she is feeling guilty eatting a 1160 calorie dinner at 9pm. At least that is what i got from it.

Like others have said, EAT WHENEVER.

Edit: I think Jackson might be right and it was a Typo

Yeah... Jackson's post seems more likely what she's saying.

Either way. OP, make sure you're eating enough in a day. Eat at whatever time works best for you.

My daily intake is usually around 1200kcal as well (with or without workout) .. But i try to eat up those calories burn as well as much as i can.. but i was confused id i should eat heavy meal or not if it's already late at night.. my daily kcal without dinner is around 800..

so I guess I should I eat my dinner even if I finish working out at around 9 :D..

    Yerp2 :) ...
  • Thank you all.. Yeah.. I guess the weight that i gained the next day was probably due to water .. I tried eating quite late last night (within my daily calorie) and when I weigh the next day, it was still fine :) ..

    Thanks again for the advise..

Forget the clock you gotta eat your din-din, starving yourself is only gonna slow you down more in the long run. It's always really good to have a nice meal after a work out anyways, you replenish glycogen levels and helps your body recover faster.

Just eat, if your hungry. Some say it'll bother you sleep-wise but, I've never had that issue. But definitely eat... Some foods may cause you to bloat, but it's water weight. Another bit of advice...don't weigh yourself every day.
