Too much iron = skin tastes like metal?

I've been going over in iron a lot lately, and didn't think it to be much of a problem.

However, I noticed I've had this strange metallic taste in my mouth lately, AND my skin tastes like metal too. (Horrible habit of biting the skin around my nails! Haha )

I've read on various sites that it could be because of my iron intake.. does this sound about right? Should I cut down on the iron?

If you know you're going over on iron lately and it started recently, that is likely your cause (only a doc can tell you for sure with a quick stick test). Are you pregnant or taking prenatal vitamins? Both cause it as well, hormones and/or increased iron in supplements. Also, I found this on Live Strong, it said if you have lost your sense of smell recently, perhaps due to illness or a broken nose, food will taste metallic. All of that comes from WebMD and Live Strong. I have no personal experience. but nothing showed any reason to be even mildly concerned.

Thank you! I do eat one Vitatop every morning -- which is a muffin full of vitamins and minerals but it is 50% of my daily iron intake. Maybe I should try out a new breakfast and see if there is a change.
