56 and looking to actually live the 2nd half of my life

I have been a "big boy" all of my life of 56 years. Funny how you remember your weight during important periods in your life. I am 5'8-1/2" tall, and remember I was 312 pounds at 15, ballooning to 425 pounds and size 60 pants and 3x shirt when 22. I have been on every diet there is you name it, yo-yoing up and down failure after failure. 3 years ago I went to my doc with knee pain. He sent me to a specialist who diagnosed not a knee problem but the need to have a total right side hip replacement. This was due to my inherited arthritis and being so heavy for so long. I then went from 380 down to 225 over the next 2 years, mainly from calorie-counting with little exercise. At first this weight loss helped a lot, then in the past 6 months the pain came back with a vengeance and my quality of life went to nothing. So, I went back and said "Doc. I'm ready."
I am currently into my 2nd week after surgery and walking with a cane. The arthritis pain is totally gone, just the surgery healing now. I gained a little back the past few months due to decreased mobility because of the pain. I am now back on MyFitnessPal and looking forward to getting back into the gym. I want to be able to walk distances, bike, just enjoy life with my family now that I have lost weight. I want to lose another 50 pounds, and am hoping with the improved mobility it will allow me to exercise as well as watch my diet.

Congratulations on turning your life around and getting healthy. I am 58 years old. Last summer I tore my right rotator cuff and the left one was not far behind.I was also developing tendonitis in both shoulders. I was out of shape at 165lbs and rarely exercised anymore. I was just setting myself up for injuries. After a few months of feeling sorry for myself and doing nothing but eating at the computer I was approved for physical therapy. I went for 3 months. At Christmas when I could not get my size 14 dress pants on I decided when my pt was over I was going to knuckle down and get myself fit and healthy. I have now lost 40lbs and I feel so much better. My quality of life has definitely improved since February when I started on this.

  • not sure "the lord " has much to do with it to be honest, more a case of people showing great determination.
