Goal weight

Having a bit of trouble figuring out what my ultimate goals should be. My current weight is 140, height 5'1". Before I gained a bit, i was somewhere between 110-125 (weight always has fluctuated a lot). I'm wondering what my goal weight should be, considering I've never lifted before, so I have more muscle now than I ever have. Suggestions?

Your old "normal weight" of 110-125 sounds reasonable. It will look even better than before with added muscle:)

Instead of having a goal weight, have a % body fat goal. If you are lifting weights, your weight may well increase even though you are losing fat.
  • I did notice within the first month or so that I gained weight, but lost inches, so I'm trying to pay more attention to inches than pounds. It's still frustrating when the scale doesn't move, though.

How do you measure % body fat? I've never looked into that

    Hi

I learned about BMR and TDEE here at MFP boards. Here is a link

I've been counting calories according to the BMR for about 2 weeks now, and it's been working much better than previously :) Thank you for the info

How do you measure % body fat? I've never looked into that

Best way is to have an expert do it using calipers. Check gyms in your area. There are other ways but not as accurate. Measure every month. Another benefit is you can see exactly where the fat is coming off. For example my first place to lose is triceps. It's a great motivator to see results.

Don't let that get you down. I once lost 5 percent body far but my weight in pounds didn't budge bc of the muscle. I lost eight lbs of fat and didn't know it.

Is measuring with a tape measure around each section of my body a good way as well? I'd been looking for a gym for a while, but can't find anything in my budget.

Tape measure is better than a scale. Ive had trainers tell me to throw my scale away because it is such a poor indicator of progress.
  • Thank you for the tips :)
