First day - fine on fat, way over on sugar?

My calorie and fat numbers look good! And I'm being honest/faithful at logging. But 3x the 39 grams of sugar I'm supposed to have total in a day? :sad: I even gave up coke and most pop, now use Cascade Ice - great taste, carbonation and it's sucralose, zero calories but

Unless you've got a health reason to avoid sugar, just focus on your overall carb goal and don't sweat too much about the sugar number. It is notoriously low and very difficult to stay under if you eat fruit.0

By eating as much fruit as one is supposed to during the day (for me, that is usually 3 servings, sometimes 4) and avoiding added sugar, I almost always go over my daily allotment. I look at it as being natural sugar and I can't really reduce it in the fruit I'm eating.0

MFP hates sugar for some reason but as long as you're under 150 sugar, i wouldn't sweat it.

Sugar is horrible for you and you should try to avoid it whenever possible. That being said, don't worry about what is in the past, just try to do better in the future.
FYI - most people on these forums don't know what they are talking about and will tell you not to worry about sugar. Yeah. Don't listen to them.0 -
there are "good" sugars and "bad" sugars. Fruit sugars take forever to turn into fat but high fructose corn syrup and stuff like that immediately turns into fat. So if you are over because of Fruit sugars, I wouldn't worry about it too much.0

i was shocked wen i first started using mfp and saw how much sugar i was consuming. most of it was fruit, but there was the chocolate almond milk, so i cut that out altogether. and i only eat half a banana instead of a full one. just tweak a little and you should be able to get the number lower. i'm stil not where mfp wants me, but its not as high either. good luck to you0

That is not true. Fructose, or fruit sugar, is handled the same as other sugars by the body. It's all just sugar. Fruit is sugar with vitamins and fiber. Fruit juice is sugar with vitamins.0

Darn, I wrote a snappy comeback and I was logged out when I hit reply?;-/ Anyway, thanks for the feedback - I do get it that the less sugar the better but I guess MFP/Fitbit aren't as granular (get it?;-) as real life. Maybe that'll come with the Fitbit/MFP 2027 robot, which will lead me down the supermarket aisle and slap my hands or give me a noogie if I try to buy too many sweets;-)0

Subtract the sugar from whole foods that you eat, such as fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy. Count the sugar from all other sources including dried fruit and fruit juice. If that number is over, then you know you need to cut back a bit.0

Thanks, that's sort of what I was figuring. Now to buy some of those Gravity Defyers with springs in the heels - and a pump for my sitting-too-long bicycle;-)0
