Gall Bladder Surgery And Exercise?

Anyone who's been through gall bladder surgery, or know of it... please help. I came out of surgery almost 2 months ago and want to know what kind of exercises I can do without causing problems with my healing wounds. Walking is an option, but what else? And how soon after surgery can I do cardio and weights?

I could only imagine it is similar surgery to a c-section. You can probably use a sitting stationary bike, an elliptical. check with your doctor before you start any vigorous exercises.
I suffer from my gall bladder, but I am trying to manage my diet and weight hoping to opt out of the surgery, since you have to follow the same diet post surgery. What was your breaking point for surgery?0 -
Rebuilding your abdominal muscles that were damaged in the surgery is a good idea before jumping into weights or intense cardio. I would try some simple gentle body weight exercise like planks or yoga to help reengage your pelvic floor.
i have had over 13 abdominal surgeries and i always start with yoga and pelvic floor work before moving on to anything intense after surgery.
edit: i also have had my gallbladder removed and it sucked! feel better!0 -
I had a section 6 weeks ago in my gallbladder surgery 4 days ago.I was told 3 weeks after my gallbladder surgery I could run again.that my surgery was done laparoscopic so I only have 4 small cuts. if I had been cut open it probably would have been 6 weeks just like my c section.0

Oh and I was told to be on a 25 pound weight restriction for 3 weeks as well0

If you are 2 months out of surgery you should be fine to do whatever you want, but if in doubt, check with your doctor. The typical recovery period for gall bladder surgery that is done laparoscopic is only 2-3 weeks of a 10 lb lifting restriction.0

@ DavPul... Well, I have a family doctor, which I have seen about two weeks ago. She's not a surgeon, but she did tell me to hold off on picking up heavier stuff since one of my wounds had bruised again (internal bleeding) after giving a bath to my kid three weeks after my surgery. And then there's the surgeon... I haven't been to her yet. She only wants to see me after a 2 month wait... unless I had complications. So I'll be seeing her this week. I will definitely ask her about exercise options. She knows more about this situation.0

@ kittyvicious1... December 2012 was my first gall bladder attack, that I can remember. I had another in January, then another in Feb, and then again in March. I didn't pay much attention to it because the attacks would go away within an hour or two. My breaking point was in April. I had severe pain under my ribs and on my right side that kept me up all night. I also had pain in my midsection... like really bad cramps. It was checked out by a doctor who then told me I had many tiny stones about 3 mm in diameter and a few had gotten stuck at the same time in the exit duct. They finally made their way out into the intestine, but not until I was in so much pain that I cried . The earlier attacks must have been one tiny stone at a time, which made their way out within an hour or two, causing little pain. Anyways, I ended up on a waiting list for the operation, and it finally came within 3 months.0

@ Tessyloowhoo... Wow, 13 surgeries? That's a lot, sorry to hear that. I will try your tip, building up slowly. After the first 3 weeks of doing minimal stuff, I was surprised at how my abdominal mucles went to nothing. I couldn't even walk with a straight posture, let alone do anything else. It took me a week to regain my posture. Now, a few more weeks later, I'm feeling fine but still feel my muscles ache when I do too much during the day.0

@ ssweet1020... I also had laparoscopic surgery, but I was told not to lift more than 10 lbs. for 3 weeks. And still after that, every time I picked something up, I felt slight pain in my mid section. I also had internal bleeding during my 3rd week, which formed a bruise exactly at the same spot where the earlier one had healed. My family doctor said it was because that middle wound was having a little trouble healing and that I should do less.0
