Hi All,
I am a 5'11'' 30 year old guy. I am realistically 45lbs over weight. I have tried to eat healthy and excercise for years, but almost always fail. I even tried using this site for a few weeks and failed at that! But im willing to give it another try, this time I would like to use the support portion of this site.
I like most foods, so eating healthy shouldn't be an issue...but it obviously is!
I am able to run a few miles and play most sports, but I never stick with a work out plan.
Anyone out there want to try and keep me motivated? Or have any words of wisdom?
Thanks!

I feel ya! I am struggling with the same thing! My heart is in the right place but I never seem to stick to the program and always end up falling off the wagon. I am not obese but I have gained 50 lbs and am not happy with the way I look and feel. I need to find the right program for me and stick with it. I am tracking my calories on here and trying to workout 3 times a week and drink as much water as possible. I am not expecting to lose it all in 2 months but a slow and steady weight loss will make me very happy!0

I started my MFP account in November 2009 but it took me until May 2010 to get serious and dedicated to my health and weight loss goals. The only things that I do differently now are to 1) log every morsel with MFP, 2) drink that water!, 3) create a weekly "meal plan" including all snacks, 4) move more
The biggest thing you can do to ensure success is to PLAN. I have created my own meal plan to make sure I get a variety of foods, proper nutrients each day, and with my super busy schedule it takes the guesswork away.
I now remember take out the meat for the next nights dinner as Im preparing that nights food because my plan is right there on the fridge, and put our lunches together with ease because it is all right there laid out for me.
I do a few hours of preparing and portioning out things for the week ahead on Sundays along with my other weekend chores now as well.
I would not have been able to get 1/2 way to my goal without making sure I plan, plan, plan.0 -
A couple of tips.
One: be realistic. If you're set up to lose two pounds a week, but can't seem to stick to a 1600 calorie a day diet (just guessing at your number), try aiming for one pound a week.
Two: don't beat yourself up. While health and fitness is a long term goal, it must be looked at one day at a time. If you have a bad day here and there, it's ok. Just don't let one or two days turn into twenty.
Three: the gym just takes time. Some people love working out, others hate it. I started off the later and became the former. While it is hard to stick to a routine, I have found that it becomes a lot easier when you start to see (and more importantly feel) the results. If you're having trouble getting into things (and sticking with it), put it on your calendar like you would any other appointment. Start small, three one hour walks a week. Once that becomes a comfortable habit, add more (the gym twice a week).0 -
Here are my tips!
SNACKS ON HAND - I always make sure to have healthy snacks around at home, work, my purse and even my car, so that when I get hungry or just want something to eat I don't have to think about it.
PLAN AHEAD - I plan what I am going to eat on Sundays for Monday-Friday since I am so busy during that time. That way I stay on track.
FOOD LOG - Until you get into good eating habits the best way to see how much you are taking in is by writing it all down. When you'll actually see the numbers it'll help you make healthier decisions in the future.
WORKING OUT - First thing I do when I come home is change from my work clothe to my workout clothe and for some reason that makes me stay on track with the workouts.
GOOD LUCK!!!!0 -
Thanks everyone, this is great feedback. It's also pretty cool to not feel like you are alone out there!0
