Using Patriotism As Motivation

I realize that not everyone is patriotic, and not everyone on here is from the U.S.

I was just thinkin' about how our country is being represented, and the different levels we're seen at.
Hate, irritation, annoyance, made fun of, neutral, good, great, strong, powerful, etc.

I've never been out of the country, so I can only imagine this, but if I were to go elsewhere and say that I'm an American I think that I would want to be in great shape, have a positive attitude, and all in all be someone that wouldn't be a tad of an embarrassment to the country as a whole. In regards to being in shape, I wouldn't want to be 'a fat American, of course.'

Does anyone else use thoughts like this to motivate them to get into better shape- or is it too much of a downer towards yourself to really consider doing? I definitely want to travel the world, but I also am very appreciative of my home. Any motivation is good motivation, yea or nay?

I suppose nobody wants the embodyment of a negative cultural stereotype, so if it works for you then great. :drinker:

I think I use it as a motivator too really, even though I'm only half American. The stereotypical image isn't a great one so I'd rather go against the grain. As said by the previous poster, if it works for you then that's good. :)
