Do not put swiss chard in a fruit smoothie

My husband and I bought a spinich/kale/swiss chard mix at the store to try in ours...knowing that spinich and kale were fine...

It tastes like you are licking a dirty potatoe....seriously.

I used to put rainbow swiss chard from TJ's in my smoothies & did not detect the off-flavor you describe.
But I totally believe you  I used only about 50g of swiss chard to about 100g total of fruits :drinker:

You should really be more concerned about your potassium limits.

Really? Maybe it was bad? The swiss chard I eat tastes sort of lemony which should be fine in a smoothie.

    Oh I know it!
I tried that too and didn't like it.
One day, in a fit of insanity, I tried dandelion greens.
Please, for the love of all things green, DON'T DO IT!

My preference is for spinach, kale or flat leaf parsley. That's green enough for me.

When we first got our Blendtec, I figured I'd make a turkey sandwich with side salad smoothie just for kicks.

Don't ever, ever, ever do this.

Was 3 months before I could eat turkey again :frown:

I tried spinach in a fruit smoothie once and it was pretty bad.

Mostly, it deadened any sweetness from the fruit and since my smoothie is my "dessert," it ruined it. Never again.

I've never understood the greens in smoothies thing. I just eat salads.

I like swiss chard in smoothies. It has a lot more sodium than other greens so it gives it a nice taste.

There are many different types and colors of chard so I would try a fresh bundle from the produce section and preferably organic. It shouldn't taste like dirty patoties. Add more fruit til it meets your taste.

That's what I was thinking. I have no frame of reference to know if something tastes like licking a dirty potato or not.

the most vile things I put in a smoothie were collard greens (what was I thinking) and broccoli. My dogs enjoyed it though. I never tried swiss chard - I imagine it would be good as I like spinach and kale in smoothies.

That's cause you don't live in Potatoe country...and yes in my neck of the woods (Canadian biligual province...not sure if it's the french influence) it is spelt potatoe.

As for the taste of a dirty potatoe that comes from actually working on a potatoe harvester....

We thought as much too. We were very wrong...and I don't think the chard was bad either it was crisp and fresh...
