Why did you stop eating carbs?
So, you felt sick before dieting when you ate carbs? Or you cut out carbs to lose weight and then felt sick when you added them back?
It's normal to be uncomfortable when reintroducing foods you have been restricting - and some people have gluten or lactose intolerance: so if you had stopped them and restarted and you had intolerances, you would feel symptoms.
By "carbs" do you mean ALL carbs? So, vegetables, fruit, grain, dairy, nuts? You completely cut carbs? That sounds like a medical issue outside the reach of this site.
Or are you saying you ate some carbs, but maybe eliminated bread and cereals, etc.?0 -

I'd suggest doing carb cycling rather than no carb or you'll mess with your thyroid (metabolism) function. Even those on the Keto diet have carb up days to restore glycogen and hormones. Unless you have a medical issue I wouldn't recommend the no carb deal. Carbs are not the enemy society made them out to be.0

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
carbs are fuel that you need.0 -
do you feel sick after eating every single source of carbs or just particular sources?0
-
Carbohydrates are the main energy source for our body. We need them.0

I eat 80% carbs and im eating more and losing more than i did before,
mind you all those carbs mainly come from fruit but still0 -
My carb intake is pretty low probably under 30 grams a day or so. you lose weight when you restrict carbs. but I've been on low carb for a long time. reducing carbs typically results in weight loss. cutting back on carbs alone is much more effective than managing calories alone.0

I don't believe in elimination diets unless there is a food you absolutely know beyond a shadow of a doubt you can't use self control when eating (like me with Skittles). Deprivation just causes binges, in my personal experience (your experience may be different). Carbs are a natural part of the food pyramid and unless you have allergies to healthy carbs, I'd advise against cutting them out.0

it sounds like celiacs or wheat intolerance. I have celiacs and I get deathly sick when I eat anything with wheat, even cross contamination hurts me. Gluten free diet will help.0

I can't even prettend to live without carbs. What kind did you cut off?0

No you lose weight when there's a deficit in your calories.0 -
I drastically reduced my carb intake a couple of years ago and lost 20kgs in just over 3 and a half months. Have managed to keep it off since as well.0

"carbs" are a pretty broad spectrum of foods. What carbs exactly did you eliminate? All carbs? Do you eat fruit and veg (carbs)?0

My questions, too.
I think some people feel sick when they eat carbs because they eat too many, so they cut all of them out..All or Nothing mentality?
"I used to eat 3 bagels, a pot of rice, and 2 loaves of bread every day and felt sick & bloated. It must be That carbs are bad for me! "
(Well, my teen son eats like that anyway...)
But some people are more carb sensitive. I found I am sensitive to water gain with "too many" grain carbs. But decided, that it's just water gain and nothing to banish bagels for overall.
And some have gluten sensitivities.
Try to pinpoint what's causing your carb sensitivity, if you can.0 -
My sil has lost ALOT of weight doing the no to low carb diets, one time he lost 85 lbs the problem is as soon as he dtarts eating carbs again it makes him sick for awhile then he gains back the weight. You need to find something you can live with. There are several of my friends who have also lost alot of weight doing low carbs all of them have gained back the weight0

I have all sorts of problems--digestive and otherwise--when I eat gluten, so I stopped eating anything with gluten in it. I also have issues with my blood sugar--I'm insulin resistant. So I've had to totally change my concept of dessert and such, too. I still eat carbs, but in the form of fruits and veggies rather than grains and refined sugars. Problem solved, pretty much.
I don't lose weight because of those changes, though. I lose weight because I eat less calories than my body consumes each day. I have had several diet breaks, and I still keep to my low carb, gluten free style of eating. I just eat bigger portions. I do not lose weight when I eat at maintenance.
If you haven't already, I really think you should see a doctor about your nausea--get yourself tested for whatever conditions he or she recommends. It's not normal to feel ill when one eats a certain macronutrient.0 -
There are good carbs and bad carbs. Good carbs are generally high in fiber which will help you lose weight such as whole grains, fruits and veggies and beans. Bad carbs are things like white bread, white rice and those are the ones to avoid to increase weight loss.0

I watch my carbs closely & try to stick w/ complex carbs. When I cut out carbs completely I felt sick & weak & had NO energy for my workouts & to Me, it doesn't really matter what U weigh if U feel like crap all the time anyways.0

Erm....do you mean carbs or STARCHES?
I can't imagine anyone never eating fruit or veggies.0 -
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
carbs are fuel that you need.
Not true for everyone. I had more energy on Atkins. I felt awesome on it...just deprived!
To OP, carb restrictive diets do often improve your mood, energy level, decrease your appetite, etc. Some people find this lifestyle sustainable as a LIFEstyle. I did not. I missed bread so much, I added it back like there was nothing better to eat in the world. So, psychologically, it's damaging for me to restrict certain foods. I am much better eating a balanced diet and staying under a calorie goal. Having said that, it's likely that you feel bad when you add carbs due to the fact that carbs are quick energy that spike your blood sugar, then abruptly drops it when your body uses that fuel. I suggest that if you want to add carbs back to your diet, do so gradually and pair them with fats/proteins. This will give your body instant fuel, then "complex" fuel to level out your blood sugar. Eating carbs alone, or a disproportionate amount of carbs will make you hungrier sooner and more often. (At least, it does for me and many others.) So yeah. You're likely experiencing blood sugar lows/crashes.0 -
Has anyone stopped eating carbs and had a successful weight loss?
Yes. For a while. Then I hit a hard plateau that could only be broken by either (literally) starving myself or adding regular exercise. I chose the latter, and that was the end of my very-low-carb experiment.
Personally I wouldn't recommend it, because for 99.9% of people it's just not going to be a sustainable path.0 -

Low Carb is a relative term, to some it means less then 20 Net grams daily to others it's 50-100 a day.
Lowering carbs for some people is simply a way to lower their overall caloric intake.
I eat in the 30-75 overall Carb range daily. I chose not eat grains of any kind. I get the bulk of my carbs from veggies and occasionally some fruit and very dark cacao.
I have tons of energy because I eat enough fats and proteins to keep my body going.
Contrary to popular belief, our body's do get energy from fat quite easily when it's been trained to do so. Why else do you think our body stores fat in the first place.... That flab on our thighs or stomach is a FAT store not a carbohydrate Store. The whole process of losing weight is because we burn fat for energy. Think about it.0 -
I'm doing keto, which is where you have very little carbs, but compensate for the lack of carbs with high fat intake and moderate protein. It finally kicked my weight loss back into gear, although right now I'm dealing with horrid water retention. But yea, reducing carbs seems to have helped with my weight loss.0

I agree with the people who asked which carbs you eliminated and which carbs are making you feel sick after you eat them. You could be sensitive to that particular food. I know a lot of people have gluten intolerance.0
