You can Google pretty much anything these days but I thought this was interesting

I saw a site that said 1 16 oz. pkg of frozen = 3-4 cups fresh broccoli florets

I always have trouble tailoring things to what I have and so many recipes call for frozen broccoli.

    MMMM...Broccoli cheese soup....yum

Broccoli is great! I love it! BUT . . . . . . . . slow cooker??? Broccoli cooks very fast, the best way to have it is to steam it or stir-fry it or you will lose ALL the wonderful nutrients that it offers you, just saying. I would think after hours of cooking the poor broccoli will be only texture:(

  • Let me warn you AGAINST slow cooking broccoli. DON'T DO IT! I found a recipe for chicken and broccoli in my low-carb crock pot recipe book and it came out terrible. I ended up throwing it away.

    How about a broccoli soup?

as someone else said broccoli cooks fast. most slowcooker recipes have you add the broccoli in the last 30 minutes of cook time. :) hth.

Yea, I'm going to have to warn you away from broccoli in the slow cooker too. It does cook very fast, turns grey and then loses much of its nutrients. It also really starts to smell. It's basically dead. Sorry girl!

On the plus side, I've found that even organic broccoli seems to last in the fridge and you can steam it very quickly in the microwave. It can be added to anything in minutes!

I was wondering why slow-cooker, too. I seldom use either the stove or the crock-pot for vegies. I usually cook them in the microwave with just a teaspoon of water. Occasionally I will stir-fry with a teaspoon of oil, or brush a little olive oil on and put them on the grill, but broccoli is really better when it's been barely cooked.

In fact, my son-in-law has always said he HATES broccoli, and won't eat anything with it in it. He cannot abide cooked broccoli and will gag the instant it hits his mouth. He recently discovered that he really doesn't mind raw broccoli! It came as a huge surprise to everyone. It will probably never be his favorite, but raw is something he can at least eat. It's a much milder taste (which seems weird.)
