Thoughts on TDEE? I have my mfp set to it, but have just read up more on it. turns out that i need to actually eat from 1600 to 1800 and i still lose weight. this includes eating exercise cals back. want to try it but am nervous. as all my life it has been eat less and you'll lose the weight.

Think of it as 'eat correctly and you'll lose the weight'.

    I was eating 1800 and now I'm eating 1875 and I've lost 50 lb/ 23 kg in 250 days :)

What harm can it do to give it a whirl for a couple of weeks

Make sure you weigh and log the calories on everything you eat and drink so you know you really are only eating that amount of calories. Go for the healthy options and you might be surprised with the result

Your goal is 125 lbs. that would put your TDEE pretty high and it also means you can go for a bigger deficit. You should have no problem losing at 1800 assuming you are estimating correctly.

To put in perspective, at 5'5 and 175lbs I was losing weight at 1800.

Go for it. Give it a few weeks before deciding

ETA - what % deficit from TDER did you go with?

Your goal is to lose 128 lbs? You could probably eat even more than that.

I came here at 5'7" and 180 lbs and lost to 160 eating 2100 calories daily. Now, I'm very active, but I just wanted to show that it's not outside the realm of possibility. If you're significantly heavier you could probably lose eating even more than 1800.

i went with 20% deficit from my TDEE, so i should be eating around 1850. if i chose 25% i would be eating around 1650 i think.
i'm 5 ft 2 in and currently weight 246 lbs.

If you find you prefer eating a bit more, you can still have a 20% cut at closer to 2000 calories if you walk briskly for 30 minutes 4-5 times a week.

    All the best to you!

This is simple science and math. Your TDEE is your total daily expenditure. If you're doing TDEE your exercise activity is included in your activity level when calculating TDEE...you don't eat back those calories...they are already accounted for.

I'm a 5'10" male with a desk job. My TDEE is 2700 calories...that's with roughly 300-350 calories burned on average for my workouts. To cut 1 Lb per week I eat around 2150 - 2200 gross calories when I was losing...lost 40 lbs. So...you are eating less...losing weight doesn't mean you have to starve yourself.
