I'm going to a friend's birthday lunch on Saturday at Mandarin and I was wondering what I should eat that is low calorie, and what food I should avoid?

Hi
I assume you are eating out, your post does not provide much information.
If so, check the restaurant web site for the menu. Some restaurants even post the calories per entree.
If not, at least read the menu in advance to choose the healthiest version you would like to eat.
Enjoy your lunch.0 -
I checked the website but there is no information on the food nutrition!0

Meat, anything not meat.0 -
I googled the website, and it looks like a pan asian all you can eat buffet. Just don't eat anything deep fried. They seem to have sushi rolls, which are a pretty good choice unless you are diabetic. It also looks like they do vegetables and grillled shrimp so those would be good choices.0

I LOVE the Mandarin. I see you're in Ontario so I am assuming it is of the same chain of Mandarins I go to once in awhile. When I go I stick to meats (craving station) and veggies as much as possible, a couple battered shrimp, and only a little bit of noodles or rice. Nothing is low calorie, even the broccoli there is cooked in oil. Just enjoy yourself, eat whatever you like in moderation and call it a cheat meal if you must.
ETA: they do have regular shrimp but it has the eyes and feet to remove yourself, if you can stand it that would be your high protein low cal choice.0 -

This site has "Cuisine of the Day" - obviously it is in Points, but it gives you a place to start.0 -
I love the salmon that they have there, its soo yummy. I usually get the salmon, mixed veggies and then the chop suey and 1 or 2 sushi rolls. I put a napkin on my plate then scoop the mixed veggies onto it so the napkin soaks up some of the high sodium sauce its cooked it. Dont worry your not soaking up the flavour0
