Ready to make a change!

Hi Everyone

I have used this app a few times before, but never posted on the forum (didnt even know there was one!). I figured talking to people online might serve as an additional motivator for me to lose weight.

Ive never been drastically overweight, however I do face my own struggles even though people on the outside may not acknowledge them (I was diagnosed with PCOS and Depression since the age of 18). Im currently 182lbs, 5'9, making my BMI 26.8, and im 25 years old. Im a qualified Nurse and soon to be qualified Midwife :)

Over the past 18 months Ive gained 2-3 stone in weight. A think a few things led to this, the main one being that I lost my dad to Leukaemia in February after an 18 month battle. I took this really hard, and Im still not coping very well with it. I stopped caring about myself, about what I was eating because he came first. My relationship with my boyfriend broke down, I became homeless and sleeping on friends sofa's, and I had to drop off my course.

So in summary, its been a really tough year. Ive finally got my life back on track, im back on my uni course with only 4 months to complete, I moved into a flat 2 weeks ago, and Im ready to get back to my old self and lose this weight. Whilst I feel good mentally, I feel my weight is dragging me down and I want to feel confident and happy again.

Im just hoping to gain some support on this forum, because whilst 2-3 stone might not seem like alot to some people, I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 18 so I find it really difficult to lose and keep weight off, which ive noticed even more as ive gotten older. Anyways sorry for rambling on, I look forward to getting to know you all.

    Hi Kate,
So sorry to hear about your father. I also lost my father in March this year to cancer after a 3 year battle. I know the feeling of total and utter helplessness and not caring about yourself. I took to drinking and over eating. Something that has helped me get myself back on track is thinking of how dissapointed my father would have been in me doing what I have been doing. He wouldn't have wanted that for me. It has been a tough year but I have finally got myself into a good, healthy and happy place.
The only advice I can give you is take it one day at a time, don't forget to spoil yourself every now and then and just keep at it and love yourself.
Good luck on your weight loss journey :).
