York Aspire Rowing Machine.

Hi, I have just brought the york rowing machine and when I do exercise, the calorie count is much lower than what MFP says. I dont have a pulse monitor attached so not sure if that will make any difference. Which do you think is more accurate. I work to a moderate level and MFP comes to 4 x what the york is telling me?

Cheers for any feedback.

Did the rower have you enter age, height, weight, gender etc? If yes I'd have more faith in the lower number (presumably the rower is tracking your stroke rate and resistance which MFP wouldn't)

MFP's calorie estimates on activities are notorious for their "generosity." I would stick with the lower number, provided it's tailored to your personal information as Brian mentioned above.

Cheers for responses. There is no way of inputting data for age etc, and with a moderate work out I was getting 17 calories in 10 minutes which is only 100 cals an hour shown on the rower which is extremely low (I think). I thought even at a moderate rate I would bun about 450 cal an hour which is 75 cal in 10 mins.

    Again many thanks for help.

MFP overstimate calories burned... and so does people with their ability to burn. At my weight, age, etc. the estimation for me is 42 cals for 10 minutes (moderate effort) and probably is still an overestimation
