10lbs lost still eating pasta and drinking wine almost daily

5'3, 128 lbs. In February I weighed 138.5. I eat pretty healthfully, and don't pay attention to any specific diet (paleo, gluten, vegetarian), and drink red wine daily. I do attend Zumba 5-6 times a week and lift heavy weights 3 times a week for 45 minutes each. This and combined with lots of short walks on my work breaks have been the breakthrough I needed for the last 10-15 lbs I wanted to lose. I was plateauing, and I realized that I needed to amp up my HIIT (hence more Zumba) and see some strength gains in my weight lifting (bench regularly 85, squat 115).
I was tired of seeing pasta as a "bad" food (I LOVE it), and just started adding in a bunch steamed veggies with a small portion (I like Ronzoni Smart taste 2/3 cup is 180 cal) and drizzle a bit of olive oil and some Parm cheese and spices. This is my favorite meal and I usually eat it for dinner once or twice a week while hubby gets to eat his junk food.
Just wanted to share what worked for me.:flowerforyou:

congrats! I love pasta, one of my favorites. The hard part for me is the serving size and i don't have a lot of willpower when it comes to pasta so i try to keep it to once a week. I make it on Saturdays for my long runs on Sundays and don't worry too much about my portion.

The last 10 pounds are the hardest i think. Congrats

There are no bad foods. Calories in/calories out. Doesn't matter what you eat to lose weight as long as you stay in a deficit.

Congrats! I also LOVE pasta. A few years ago my household made the switch to whole wheat pasta and more recently I switched again to brown rice pasta. It's working for me!

    Congrats and :drinker:

    Yay! Well done!

I love both pasta and wine - I like to share a bottle of wine with my boyfriend of an evening. I also started worrying this week that I might be causing him to waste away (we cook every night and eat the same) so now he gets EXTRA pasta. And no complaints there!

The interesting part of this is that we actually have hard recent data for dogs and cats done at the University of Tennessee nutrition service showing that this may not be entirely true. There may not be "bad" foods but there do appear to be some really "good" foods that changed the expression of genes related to metabolism in overweight dogs and cats. Without much of a change in caloric intake, feeding a food that had a combination of ingredients like coconut oil, tomato, carrot, L-carnitine, etc. actually completely flipped the genetic metabolic expression of these animals. The ingredients that did this were somewhat different for dogs and cats, so safe to assume they don't necessarily apply exactly to humans, but the good news is that there probably are foods that can help shift the body's desire to store fat rather than burn it. It isn't a magic bullet that will cure total overeating, but it was found to work in pets who were previously unsuccessful either because their owners were cheating on amount/treats or because they had little to no exercise (indoor cats, dogs with orthopedic issues, etc.). The science is called nutrigenomics and it's kind of awesome. (Before anyone freaks out, this is NOT the same as genetic modification, not even a little bit).
