Anyone Here Doing MMA for Strength?

I just started, as in tonight was my 5th class, and I may be the fattest person there but it is a fundemnentals class so at lwast everyone is around the same knowledge/skill wise. I am behind most of them cardio wise too but I am going to start C25K on Monday so 5 days a week of exercise.

I hate the leg work days since I am not sure what I'm doing and I have no balance or prior martial arts skills. Though I am loving the jabs and kicking. This is the first time I have wanted to exercise and it is awesome.

Anyone else do MMA? What else do you do besides the classes/training?

MMA is skills training. While such training will help your conditioning and, to a much less extent, make you stronger, you should be doing separate conditioning and strength training programs.
  • I've trained in MMA for about 5 years now. Depending on what you're taking will determin what you are really exercising. Out side of my classes I run and play other sports. If you want to improve your cardio I would suggest running/ walking. Make sure you don't just give up!! You have to keep pushing yourself! Best of luck!
