What do you do? Do you LOVE it?

I work in Human Resources but my passion is animals. I'm trying to figure out how to get into the field! I have a BS in Management.

Same. I worked at an animal hospital and a shelter before that. The animals were great. And actually, most of the clients at the vets were good. Some were really annoying - the paranoid ones who wanted to be seen for every fart and hiccup - but those annoying ones were often the best owners.

The vets themselves, though, were nutjobs. Good vets, bad bosses.

Presently, I'm working with animals in a completely different way. I'm painting their portraits.

Nice! If only I could paint lol

To OP: Are you looking for hands-on? You can become a zoo keeper or vet tech fairly easy, but that's sort of a step below a BS degree. I'm sort of side-stepping the biology intensive route and going for a BS in geography, hoping to snag a wildlife job doing tracking and migration patterns. Its not nearly as hands-on as being a vet, but there is the occasional tagging or helping a lost baby duck or deer etc.

ETA: I realize that my side-step is below what a BS is usually for, as well. I just don't care because I would be doing the sort of things I love

Well I'd like to work hands on. And getting a vet tech degree would be going backwards for me. I keep thinking about starting my own pet sitting business. My current pet sitter is great and has offered me some tips of the trade, but I'm so scared to start and not sure WHERE to start. I am not sure I could be a vet tech and see animals die daily. I don't know... I just know I'm not doing what I love. I love animals and need to somehow work with them.

I actually don't officialy have a career that has to do with animals, but I've rescued 14 (now 15) cats and kittens before so I guess its my hobby?! lol!

    I so know that feeling.

I am currently working at a small business (we are celebrating our first year open this weekend), and I gotta say it takes a lot of capital to start your own place (we're still in the red most months). Petting sitting you can do from home, which is a bonus, but insurance and legal fees will still be an issue. You can get basic small business advice from a legal consultant.

If you have the spare time, volunteering at a no-kill shelter can be very rewarding, but obviously not for financial gain. I got to do it when I was a teen, but right now I am just too busy. It's great because once you get the dirty work done, they encourage you to take the animals out to socialize them.
