Running for Change

As some of you may or may not know, I will be running quite a few marathons this year! Over the last several days, I have really been putting a lot of thought into what kind of difference running makes on my life. I came up with many reasons why running has changed who I am and how I live my life. Since early last year, I have had a constant nagging though that continues to creep into my mind often daily. How can I use my running to benefit others? Is there a way? If so, how? Well I believe that I have come up the answer to my questions.

I am going to dedicate this entire year of marathons to raising money. I am not just going to raise money for any particular charity, I want to do something different and unique. Therefore, I have come up what I hope is a slightly unique idea...

I will run for YOUR charity or the charity of your choice. I have created a Facebook page that will hopefully help me in this endeavor. Here is how it is going to work.

I am going to start DEAD LAST at every marathon. I will be the last person to cross the starting line. Now if you desire to make a donation to a particular charity all you have to do is make a pledge. It can be in any amount you want however I would keep it no more than 1 or 2 cents and I will explain why. I am going to run the marathon and based on where I actually finish will determine how much you donated to your charity. So for example, let's say that there are 5,000 people running a particular marathon. I finish 4000th out of 5000. So, person A pledged 1 cent per runner I passed. Since I finished 1000 runners ahead of where I started you would take the 1000 and multiply by 1 cent and you get to make a $10 donation. See...it's pretty simple.

Now I also know that money can be and is tight for some people and I am not here to pressure anyone. I just wanted to find a fun way to give a little back to my community, to your community or whatever charity you feel needs some assistance. I really hope this works out as a positive for everyone involved.

If you are interested in joining me on this great journey to help some people and organizations that need the help, visit my Facebook page and http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/Running-for-Change/163092833703131 and make a pledge.

Thank you all so much in advance!
