Martial Arts

Anyone else into Martial Arts of any kind? I live and breath karate :) I have been training 13 years now and absolutely LOVE it.

I am currently working towards my Ni (2nd) Dan black belt and train 3-4 times a week... despite being classed as obese I am fit and at the last check had the blood pressure of a 25 yr old much to my Drs surprise!

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there?

Theres a bunch of MMA/Martial Arts/Boxers out here on MFP. You just have to find them really. Theres a couple of martial arts groups but they're not very active tbh.

    Not any more .

I did Shotokan for several years, I quit when they tried to give me a black belt. I refused to be tested at a lessor standard than other men just because I was older. I was very good with kata but a poor fighter- I was always worried that I would hurt someone.

Did Kenpo (Chinese) , TangSooDo (Korean), & Taekwondo (Korean) over the years, but mostly the latter. I have a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo, used to compete in full contact, then coached, but after an ACL surgery (roundhouse kick) I just train on my own at home now. Go easy on the post-op leg. Also train in Krav Maga (Israeli) at home.

I've been taking TKD the past two years, but as of late I haven't been going to class because of personal issues, and that has gotten me in lazy mode. My contract ends in November, and I don't plan on renewing it. Down the road I'd like to take either kickboxing or Muay Thai.

I've been doing Tae Kwon Do for the last 4/5 years. Its helped me massively to increase my overall fitness. And you should see some of the Black Belts we have (3rd Dan and higher) obese is one way to put it...but having seen them break blocks of concrete, I'm not arguing with them!

That's awful! We have an 80year old, who got his 6th Dan a couple of years ago and he's still going!

Ikkyu (3 stripe brown) in Judo, hoping to compete and win enough points in the next year to test for Shodan. (You have to compete in full-contact grappling and win in Judo to progress)

Doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and freestyle Wrestling right now for lack of Judo instruction here in town, having a ton of fun with it. Go to an MMA-focussed gym and it's amazing how much strikes can change the game and open up opportunities.. My first love will always be Judo though, so brutally beautiful.

I'd like to do some striking, Muay Thai, Kyokushin Karate, or Boxing but I simply don't have the time. I've tried to learn enough to get in and clinch up without my face getting turned to mush, but that's about it.

The most active group I have found for MA on MFP is 'Martial Arts and Sport Fighting', but even there it can go several days with no posts, yet people seem to respond quickly when you post something there.

I am a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and love it. I train about three to four times a week. It is what has helped me get to where I am today.
