After years of trying many different diets...Finally have found the way to eat and lose. Plant Based diet. (ala Engine2) and JUICING!
This combo has been a great success.
On 8/6 my weight was back up to 179. Today on 9/9 my weight is 164! And this is so doable!
Bought a juicer (Hamilton Beach Big Mouth) and did the online research ...found the Films "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" & "Forks over Knives" ...got inspired to make changes.
Heart health, and general overall healthy improvements along with weight loss that will LAST because I really and honestly CHANGE my habits. (cutting portions has never had lasting effect for me) This is a totally new way of living. I absolutely love it!
Week one I juice fasted. It was a long 7 days but an eye opener and I REALLY appreciated eating fruits and veggies when I was eating food again.
I researched Vegan recipes along with the Engine2 diet plan of not using OILS...I LOVE to cook...it is a passion.
I am enjoying every meal and learning new things. 15 lbs in just a couple of days over a month! I still juice twice a day. I make Salad my main meal or at least a main feature and make veggie and bean meals or soups or roasted veggies on the side. All delicious. I have tried new things. Keep the breads and pasta low priority but enjoy whole grain versions of both.
This is my first real success at a life changing way to live. I feel great.
Five times I hit goal at Weight Watchers, I have gained and lost the same pounds over and over...when I found this New way of doing this (new to me) It made all the difference.
I was so tired of watching my weight climb back up and then thinking..."Here I go again" counting calories or points or portions etc etc etc...So needing to lose and so tired of repeating the same steps all over again.
Juicing...the second day was the worst for me. By day three I was feeling better. I knew what I was doing. I followed the Juice Fast plan to the letter and by the end of the week I was 9lbs down and feeling great!
Many people do 30 days but I love to cook so I just did the 7 days with the idea that I can do a 3 day reboot anytime I feel like it to kick start or break a plateau. But I have not needed to yet.
Juicing for breakfast and then lunch or as a snack the second time, drinking water and herbal tea (my favorite is Stash Liquorice Spice) and then making a good dinner. Meatless, sugarless, oil free, and no animal products. You feel pretty good.
I love steak and chicken and cheese etc and some day I may have it again in moderation but I am not missing it and for now this is the way to go for me.
Who knows the future I don't want to say never. I want to feel healthy and I want to be the right weight for my frame and age.
Health is the key. I am 5'4" and I am 62. My all time high weight was 180. That is ridiculous. My joints were not happy and neither was I. Again!
The first big side effect of Juicing...CALM. I felt a calmness that I can't explain. I began to notice that by the 5th day. It persists now. I am so happy about it.
All the hidden sugars of processed foods and packaged foods and other chemical enhancers...that is what is missing from my diet. That has to be what cause that underlying low grade anxiety I was feeling but never really knew it until it went away. LOL!
Just wanted to share this first month of success. Maybe it will encourage or resonate with others. Going to keep at it. It is all good.

When you were doing the juice fast did you do different recipes? I was trying the juice fast.. was feeling great too, however It was so hard to keep up with making the drinks... Did you feel like that? Maybe too becuase I was trying to make them for my husband and son ... seemed like I was constantly in the kitchen. lol. Please let me know if you have any advice if I try to do this over again. I loved the fat sick and nearly dead video !0

way to go! I did a fast for 16 days back in 2011. i lost 22 lbs. i ended up only gaining 10 back! i recentyl did a 5 day reboot and lost 10 lbs in that week(yay water weight) but i too felt AMAZING, slept better and after 3 days cravings were non existant.. Sadly, i went back to my old eating habits and gained all of it PLUS 3 lbs back on within a week and a half of stopping. ugh.
I defin think a week reboot for your system is an amazing thing to do. Its like a cleanse form the inside to get all those nasty toxins out ( i broke out more that first 4 days! ) Just gotta stick to eating healthy afterwards. if you go back to eating CRAP you will feel like CRAP and you WILL gain it all back.
Way to go on the progress. health is the most important thing, not just the weight loss. i wish you nothing but the best!!0 -
Thanks so much!
To answer a question...
I had no trouble with making juices. I made 3 big 16-22 0z juices a day and drank a lot of water. I would vary the recipes and found right off the bat I could not tolerate Kale. So all my greens were Romaine lettuce and Spinach. Kale was too harsh.
I only had the occasional "fruit" drink ...where even then I would add Romaine and cucumber to the fruity ones.
I now really like the green ones. I usually have that one in the afternoon. I am always in the kitchen it seems anyway. LOL I love to cook so it is not a big deal for me. I finally have a routine. I could even cook regular meals for my husband and still just drink juices.
The idea of what I was doing and how good I have felt has kept me going.
I really hate the thought of going back to my old ways. Where I put gravy on my gravy and mac and cheese were my best friends for comfort foods and I like them.
Rebooting...I will most definately do a 3 day fast here and there...I admire those who can do the 15 day fasts ...day 7 was my limit. But I will keep juicing as an adjunct to eating Plant Based ...if I should have some chicken or steak at some point I will make it an episode few and far between...I just don't want to go back to the "old Me" and keep jumping on the same old merry-go-round of yo-yo dieting. I've done it far too long.
Health is the # 1 mission at my age. Just the thought that eating this way can actually reverse heart disease is amazing to me. I don't know for sure if I have narrowed vessels but the way I have eaten all my life it sure is possible. I am so anxiously awaiting my blood work due in early Dec. I will have been on this new plan for 5 months.
I want to see my MD's face when she reads my weight and she looks at my labs! If my cholesterol levels are not in normal range I will be shocked.
Once you start this plan and really prepare yourself it is not hard. I do want to keep the crap out and keep the whole foods and clean eating in place. It is a very different ball game this time around.0
