Watching your own kids is called parenting.

Watching your friend's kids is called baby sitting.

Watching kids at the playground from a panel van is called pedophilia.
    This!

    HAH! SNORT!

I overheard a friend's husband offer to babysit their son so she could go to a yoga class. I'm pretty sure she almost killed him. It shouldn't even be a conversation! :) But I hear it more than I should.

if its your kid, its parenting, not babysitting. Its only babysitting when you did not make or help make that child(ren).

Or if you are the legal parent/guardian of said child.

I just wrote a friend that I couldn't make plans because I was "babysitting all day Saturday & overnight." That includes my son, but three other kids as well, so....

It was the easiest term I could think of.

    Kinda like twerking.

Consider yourself lucky. I know a few deadbeat moms. The fathers are more mother & father than the birth mother could EVER be.

it drives me crazy when people call looking after their own kids babysitting. Its not babysitting! Its like, existing!!! when you're a parent its what you do!

its a bit like calling parenting a job. not a job.

I don't consider it babysitting ... but my husband does when I dare to leave the house without them. :grumble:

Thank you, girl! This is my husband too. He works and "all I do is stay at home" so yes, he considers it "watching" them. Not that he doesn't love being with them, but it is work :-)

Yes. I never felt the need to arrange for my husband to "watch" my daughter if I had plans/things to do. I'm leaving the house. He's there, she's there. End.

Is this like a real thing??? I'd leave my kids with my husband, and he'd call me 15 minutes later asking when I was coming home.

Do you consider watching your own child babysitting? Isn't it just "parenting"?

    I consider it parenting.
I do understand that when a person is asked to do more than they are usually asked to do it can feel like babysitting. I can also see if a man calls it babysitting because he is treated like a babysitter...you know given schedules and rules etc like he is an idiot who doesn't know how to care for his own kids...

Now if I am just watching them from the van for the purposes of establshing a pattern for abduction and holding for ransom, and I have no sexual intent, it is not pedophilia.

You're not sonding very convincing. I babysit for slave labor. I don't have time to train them.
