Goal; from BIG to HARD

Hi,
I am kind of new to MFP but not to dieting/weight loss and have recently been pondering the whole losing weight thing to be slim versus the losing weight and getting a hard ripped-ish body.
I would love some advice on the process. I am presently in the very obese range so do I need to work on my general size reduction before looking at strength training (I am guessing)?
By the way, what prompted this thought was seeing an infomercial where they were showing a workout series which included MMA moves and the people looked just perfect. I realised that this is what I want (can't remember the name of the DVDs).
I essentially want to go from a fat, lazy 40-is woman to a buff, gorgeous, fit 40-is woman.

Don't wait, start weight lifting now.0

Agree with Adini- don't wait. Why repeat efforts?
Here's a little something some people have a hard time realizing. Fat is fat and muscle is muscle- the two are not interchangeable, nor does one turn into the other. But... muscle does a great job at helping your body burn fat!
Good luck.0 -
Lift weights, do cardio, eat right....repeat from now until FOREVER...there's no finish line, and there is NOOOOO reason to wait to start lifting.
Some people want to lose weight first, then start lifting....but lifting weights is what GETS you in shape!! Do it now, you will never regret it0 -
Definitely not what I thought this thread was about...
But I agree that you should lift weights while dropping the fat. You will look awesome afterwards and won't have to back track when you get to a goal weight but can't lift more than 10 pounds.0 -
Thanks guys!!!0
