Hi everyone,

I have been spending way too much money lately. I want to start paying off my credit card before the holiday season comes up, but I need some ideas of things I can do that don't cost a lot. My ideas so far are:

-Eat at home, make cafe drinks at home
-Re-organize iPod music library
-have a movie night at home on the weekend instead of going out
-Read the books I have instead of buying new ones.

Please give me your money saving ideas!! :) Or ways to have fun without spending anything. THANKS !

Be somebody's dog walker! You'll get some light exercise in and make new furry friends. You might even get paid for it :)

    1. Walk your/a dog
    2. Walk anyway
    3. look at your local listings for stuff happening - I love in a small town in the North of the UK and there are always events going on. Do random things, you'll meet random people and have random experiences.
    4. Cook one new low cost meal a week - we can all do with increasing our cooking skills and recipe base. Decide that one night a week you'll try something frugal and see where it leads you.
    5. Sell your stuff. Most people have books/dvds/clothes/random crap taking up space. Have a clear out - it'll keep you busy and you can put the money towards your crecit card bill

    Good luck!

These are decent ideas so far. I have no friends that live close to me. They all live about an hour away. Seeing them costs me gas money. :(

I am by myself a lot.

Go to bookstores, browse or read some there.
Volunteer!-- you meet a lot of nice people and you do something good.
Learn a new language--lots of resources on the net
    Learn a new craft
Learn new recipes-- I taught myself how to make sushi
Go hiking or go on walks
Look at your town's event calendar. There are often lots of free music or art events.

There's lots of things to do.

Sports, sports, and more sports! You can get into sports clubs for VERY low cost, and equipment is cheap. You can buy a $30 tennis racquet, a $3 can of balls and you and other friends can hit any number of free parks with courts. AND there is a health benefit. Hiking is the same.

    Worthy and not costly.

Do you have an elevator you can visit? http://meyerweb.com/other/humor/elevator.html

    Or you could visit Wal-Mart..http://fly2dasky.wordpress.com/2006/03/29/101-fun-things-to-do-at-wal-mart/

Seriously though, I could think of a million things that I need or want to do that don't cost money, but don't have the time to do them. Including but not limited to:

Sell a lot of this crap in my house
Clean my pig sty of a house
    Catch up laundry
Fix my now weed garden into an actual flower garden
    Clean the attic out
Organize my music and actually put it on my iPhone
    Catch up Quicken
    Shave my legs
    Cut and stack some firewood
    Play some video games
    Learn a second language
    Watch some movies
    Read some books
    Volunteer at an animal shelter

Well if you like gaming get Steam on your computer-- tons of free games. If you like reading, hang out at a library. Take up learning a new language. Craft. Learn to change your car oil. Waste your life away reading old firejoemorgan.com & regretsy.com posts. And go read Goon. It's not free, but comics are cheap enough.
  • Go shopping, fill your cart with things you want, then just leave the store. Still feels like you went shopping, right? Right?

Hey it all depends what you are into for activities, like go for a bike ride with your kids or just your husband. go for a picnic, movie night, candle light dinner, watch the stars at night, each night you could always do something different, have a game night, card games or board games or Xbox Kinect is my fave. there's lots of things to do that is helpful and affordable. walking through your neighborhood talking about the future. learning a new skill, take some classes, watch utube, learn how to cook, or etc. walk down to the beach, relax with a candle,

Get into a sport? Read books, play video games, download new music..
  • Clean out your stuff you don't use and sell it on ebay or craigslist or have a yard sale (make money to buy things you want or to pay off cc debt faster)
    hiking at local parks
    biking
    walking
    getting books from the library
watching movies on anything you already pay for such as NetFlix, cable or satellite
playing board or computer games you already have (have a game night with friends)
work on home projects you've put off (could be repairs or as simple as cleaning out that spare bedroom)
    mall walking/window shopping
meeting friends for a walking date
volunteering your time at a hospital, nursing home, or any non-profit organization

Find a place to volunteer your time. It's usually pretty fun and you feel great afterwards. It's a great way to make friends.
