I would say that the best time to exercise is whenever you have the time to fit quality exercise into your daily routine. There are a lot of variables that might make one have personal preferences to one thing or the other (the quantity of food, the type of exercise, etc.).

If your exercise is walking, then I would guess that it's fine to do it whenever. Especially if it's a leisurely 2.5mph type of walk. If you're wearing a weighted vest and going up and down hills, then you may want to let your food settle a bit before walking (for comfort's sake).

If this isn't helpful feedback, maybe you can elaborate a bit more about what you're doing for exercise and specific timeframes in which you're doing it (as well as when you're eating)?

It's nice to read that you're doing what you can to get in some activity. Good job!

Like was said above, it really doesn't matter. Unless the exercise makes your stomach upset with food inside then after a meal is fine.

I sometimes go running after a smaller meal, seems to be fine, but I'm not killing myself. I agree with the "whenever it fits and feels good" method.
  • Thanks, appreciate all insight. I am a single mom of two children, so I try and get outside and Walk/Jog when I can, usually after dinner. However, with Fall upon us, gets darker earlier, so I try to get out as soon as I am done cooking. Thanks again.

I don't think it matters either way, but if after meal, give it a good half hour for food to digest, if you had a big meal

I'd say it depends on how heavy the meal is and how hard the exercise. A walk after dinner is great...if I tried to do tabata after dinner, I'd prob puke! lol
