Want more cake!

There are always tips on portion sizes and portion control. When it comes to food - I have no issues - I follow the recommended portion sizes and stick with it. I even go as far as always leaving food on my plate!

When it comes to cakes - that's a different story - no matter how much I try I always want a second slice. Any tips on curbing this? I'm not hungry for the cake, nor do I deny myself so I don't crave it.....am I just plain greedy!? Does anyone have this issue? What do you do when you want a second helping (not necessarily cake)??

Cake, for so many of us, is our Achilles Heel.

I eat the cake and log it. It just has calories. Like spinach or tomatoes do.

    People need cake.
  • Cake is good but save the second slice for tomorrow. Plus it'll give you something to look forward to. :)
I'm not sure how many calories a medium slice of cake would have but I can guess around 300-400 (depending on the toppings as well).
If you're looking to curb your appetite, I love to have carbohydrate-rich snacks with some tea. My favorites would be black and green tea as they seem to compliment sweets. Coffee is also a well-known appetite suppressant.

Cut the slice half as big, and then you can have two!

I just tell myself to wait a bit, and usually in half an hour or so I've stopped wanting.
  • Make a healthier cake and have 2 slices. Then it would be the same as 1 slice of high fat and cal cake. Works for me.

And if it's made from scratch it may not be too unhealthy. Sure, it's gonna have sugar and fat, but homemade cake has less sugar than most and some are made with olive oil (carrot and chocolate cakes). There are also lots of eggs, cream cheese, etc. You could be eating worse things.

This is me to a T! I have a horrable relationship with cake!

I would go with anyone that promised me cake lol I have a VERY hard time stopping at one piece..or if i do stop at one piece then i want one piece every single day. It becomes a vicious cycle for me. When it happens , it usually takes me 2-3 weeks to get myself over it. Usually because i feel so sick and so guilty that i ate cake for 3 weeks lol

Candy bars are another thing i have trouble with.

You are not alone for sure.

    Cake plus me =

    True story.

I bake as a side job to make some extra cash, so I'm constantly surrounded by homemade cupcakes, cakes, cookies, scones, etc.I just make sure I have the calories to spare so I could eat it for dessert, and then again either for breakfast the next day or for dessert again the next night. While not eating a second helping at the moment could be difficult to do, IMO knowing you're gonna have some the next day gives you something to look forward to and makes it a little easier to resist that second helping.

Many of us would eat ourselves sick if we just let go and ate as much as we wanted.

So . . . you're not alone in wanting to eat more cake.

Just don't. That's the trick. You just learn to stop.

    No. You. Don't.

Well, at at least that was my initial response to this thread.... But the others are right - everything in moderation, even better if you've got the calories. If you don't, how about freeing some out before you indulge.

On a side note, Candi_land, is that Richard Simmons in your tracker? That makes my day
  • I have the same problem, just with different foods.
Maybe have a smaller slice of cake so you can have 2 pieces (equal 1 medium slice)
    just a suggestion.

I was just telling my friends on here today that someone brought in morning tea which was all sugar/refined carbs/bad fats. It was things I would never buy because I'm fussy about my "junk" food but I ate it since they were nice enough to give it to us. Now all day I've been hungry and eating more sugar etc than I ever do and feeling so tired. Refined carbs/sugar just makes me crash and want more. I don't understand why. Maybe you have the same problem.
  • Its a great idea to make healthy cakes - I've even gone as far as those raw cake recipes. But there is nothing better than a good homemade slice of cake. I have a dairy allergy - so I tell myself there is almond milk and dairy free spread so that must be better.

I'm also attempting a cake this weekend made with Spelt flour. I haven't baked with it before, so hopefully it goes well.

I am so glad I am not alone - happy to hear your stories!!! Thank you!

This might not help at all - but I know for me personally my need for cake and the like was really driven by a need for chocolate - I found that if I just eat a candy bar (Like hercheys milk chocolate) I get a more concentrated chocolate fix and will use up many less calories, this may or may not apply to you at all so sorry if I am way off on this one - good luck though :)

I find that logging it, staying within my calories, and knowing I can have more again another day really helps. Fitting treats in with reasonable quantities makes them easier to get a handle on.

  • I love cake, too. Love it.

I don't keep it in the house. It's a birthday thing around here. And even then, I try to invite enough people to avoid leftovers. If there aren't enough people, then I deny myself that second slice. Moderation is an important life lesson, whether that be in eating, spending, or drinking. A little won't harm, but a lot will.

You can always justify "just one more slice," but is it worth it?
