NASCAR Interval Training - Bring on the Hushpuppies!
I have been trying to be patient regarding running. I finally realized that I could not just go out and run like I used to. I had to 1. Lose about 15 lbs 2. Cross train with elliptical, stairmaster, stationary bike etc. 3. Give myself rest days 4. Eat Enough to fuel the workout.
I still run slower than molasses, but I am starting to be able to run again.
You see... I am a product of the south and I like my NASCAR (Chevy drivers for me: Jr. ,(the late great driver of the #3), the 24 car, Jimmie Johnson, Smoke... you get the picture). I also like my Coleslaw, Barbeque, and Hushpuppies! But I let the good food get away from me and I got up to 203 lbs and 32+% bodyfat (gulp!)
I have gotten to where I am experimenting with different training methods. Today I came up with this crazy "Nascar Interval Training" at the local trail.
1. I give myself 1 hour
2. Put on a backpack with water, my phone with runkeeper app, and a banana (My car)
3. Give myself a Pace to keep to (runkeeper gives an audio update every minute)
4. Do whatever it takes to keep to the pace by combining sprints, walk breaks, and medium jogging.
5. "Drafting" is when I run really fast down a hill.
6. I have 3 "pit stops" where I get a bottle of water out the pack as fast as I can and not lose too much off the pace.
7. I even have "restrictor plates" (The backpack and my own 30-40 lbs I need to lose! )
8. The only thing I don't do is "trade paint" with other bicyclers and runners (that would be a tad awkward)
It's getting fun!

This. is. amazing. I too am a product of the South. My boyfriend and I are geeks though: we enjoy racing games (like nascar simulators), go karts, and drifting.
I feel that it would be hilarious if we raced like you do. At least we won't be bored!0 -

That sounds AWESOME. I'm going to have to try this method on my next run.
If I can get a good friend along, number 8 might become a little modified...0 -
