5'9 - 163 - 37,30,40 -- How To Lose My Muffin Top?

Anyone else have these measurements? My Biggest problem area is my muffin top! I started at 170 (ish) and have worked down to 163. Any suggestions for losing the muffin??

I just recently cut myself to 1,300 cals. a day. Also I'm following a 90% paleo diet. It's starting to come off faster so I'm just looking for target training I guess. But yes, I will keep losing fat!0

There is no such thing as "target training" when it comes to fat loss. If your body has fat to lose all over your body, it will take it from wherever it wants. You could do 10,000 side bends and crunches per day, but if your body has fat on your legs or arms it will burn from there first.
Losing weight around the midsection comes from.
Diet (safe caloric deficit) + Work (cardio mixed with compound movement strength training) + patience (because the fat in your midsection will be the last to go).
Also, 1300 calories per day sounds a bit low. Your TDEE -20% (for fat loss) is 1600 calories, for a sedentary person with a desk job. This doesn't include exercise. If you include exercise it would be even higher.0 -

Also note my edit about caloric intake, but ya.....belly fat is usually the last to go. Not saying it won't reduce as you lose overall BF, but it won't drop at the same rate as the rest of your body....usually.0 -
Ahhh I see. I was sort of trying it out if that makes any sense at all. I'm not really overly hungry throughout the day and it seems to have kickstarted small weight losses daily. I was originally eating 1,600 a day but was not paleo/primal but when I switched to 1,300 I went full on. My plan was as the weight decreases, increase the caloric intake.0

It is just sticking with your plan, and knowing that it takes time.
In the realm of Diet.....VEGGIES are a big must....the fiber helps with fat.

This is true, but it is also caused by wearing pants that are too loose! Mine slide down over my hips and then get stuck right above my booty, shoving the skin/fat into the oh-so-attractive muffin top (which is now paired with the saggy backside for extra sexiness). I resolve this by wearing a belt (until I can go shopping anyway).0 -

I looooove veggies and I looove protein! I feel as though now that I've gotten the portions under control it will start coming off faster. Before I was just eating whatever and going to the gym. FAIL!0 -
Our stats are nearly identical. We're about the same height, we started at the same weight and have similar measurements.
Yes, pants being too tight will cause love handles. I have also found that if you are high waisted, as I am, pants sit WAY lower than they should and end up creating a muffin top. Buying a higher rise definitely helps.
Patience. You're technically in the "average weight" realm for your height. It'll come off---but it'll be slow. I've been increasing my activity levels as well to get rid of the top of this muffin.0 -

I'm jealous. I'm 5'9", 148-150, and my measurements are way worse than yours! 37-33-38. I don't WANT to lose any more. Each time I get below 150, I look emaciated in my arms, legs, and ribs, but the tummy does NOT change. To be fair, I've lost nearly 130 pounds, so I suspect the bulk of my issue is loose, flabby skin which will only be helped with surgery, which I refuse to do. (I'm askeered!)

That's certainly your prerogative, but even as you lose body fat or reach your goal, you will likely have a muffin top unless your garments fit properly.
Also, you don't necessarily have to go up a size to get rid of the muffin top (though in my experience that is often the culprit). As another poster mentioned you may benefit from a slightly higher rise on your pants--I know I do.0 -

Yes, to the body fat, but body shape is not necessarily going to improve if you continue to lose. I just wanted to point out that sometimes what's left isn't fat, so continuing to lose fat isn't the answer. My situation's unique with my extra skin, so I know it's not the same thing, just adding a slightly different perspective.
You're absolutely right that if it's fat that's left and not somebody's unique muscle distribution or some other "shape" issue, then continuing to lose fat will rectify the problem. :flowerforyou:0 -

By definition, a muffin top is fat spilling over the waistband. If that's not your problem, disregard my advice.0 -
I'm close to your measurements and weight but absolutely no muffin top. 5'10", 150 pounds. My hips are 40 but it is bone down there.
The lower ab, hips, and bottom did come off last. But it went from soft to solid with just a lot of walking. I also use a balance ball chair at work to help me strengthen my core. I'd look better with heavy lifting (you'll hear that a lot), but I do not have that much discipline or time.0 -

Pinch the skin on the back of your hand. Now pinch the skin on your belly. If you have only skin on your belly, the pinch will be as small as the one on the back of your hand. If not, you still have fat under the skin. If you keep losing, you will lose the belly fat as well. It's just that the arms and legs get thin first, then the belly. Keep going!0 -
We have very similar stats (5'8", 155, 37/31/38.5) so I'm here to commiserate My legs have gotten thinner much faster than my waistline and finding flattering pants is rough right now. I even have a few pair of my old "skinny pants" that are already huge in the legs but ever so slightly muffin-topped (so sad!). While you're working on getting your bf% down, check out Target's Mossimo jeans in "Fit 6." They are the only jeans I've found that fit both my legs and waist/hips perfectly at this rather awkward time.0
