more sweat than the pacific!!!

when I first started working out I sweated a normal amount I suppose for the last 5 months or so the sweat on my face and neck is ridiculous, I work out for a couple of hours 5 days a week, I thought it was supposed to get better lol?? it forms in pools in my collar bone area....I didn't even realise it was possible for my body to contain that much liquid I look like I've had a shower....is there any way I can decrease it or am I just stuck with being a sweaty betty?

I don't sweat much myself, but as long as its not excessive sweating just doing nothing, i guess it just comes with the training mate.

Perhaps you are now working harder/pushing yourself more? I mean, sweating is our body's way of cooling itself, so that would make sense? I think? haha
Just throwing that idea out there. I have been a sweaty betty since middle school (I am in my 30s). I've come to terms with the fact that I am a sweaty beast. :)
  • haha yeah it's not like i need a drip tray when i walk to work or anything haha after step classes is worst, it flies off(nice) although I don't expect to float back out of the room followed by rose petals, my friend actually said 'Oh my god look how much your head's sweating' lol ....thanks for that bud!

Guess I'm strange, I actually love to sweat as it makes me feel like I'm working hard. I just keep a hand towel with me to wipe up as needed. When I leave the gym with sweat on my shirt, I feel really good about myself.
  • I feel that way about aching...my legs huuurt the next day....and I love it! ;-)

  • I'm still heavy so I sweat a lot when exercising but I don't bother about it. When I stop exercising it stops etc. Just make sure you keep your fluid intake up to compensate. :)

Everyone has a different sweat rate. It is what it is.

  • When I'm on a bike, I sweat like crazy. It pools up under my gut, so I end up with a great big wet spot on the front of my shorts. Yeah, it totally looks like I pissed myself.

My husband, who was a cross country athlete in college, would say the more you run, the better your body gets at cooling itself (ie, better at sweating).

So perhaps sweating more is a good thing? Shows your body can adapt?

I thought the common wisdom was that the better in shape you are, the more you sweat? That the body figures out how to cool the body faster and your sweat composition changes - becomes mostly water, less minerals and whatever it is people sweat:) I just remember reading that on the forum at one point and seemed to be agreed upon. No clue if it's true, but I certainly sweat tons more than before.

I've heard the same, that as you're in better shape, you sweat more efficiently (which means more quickly when you start).

Don't know whether that's true or not, just something I heard from a bro...

Just means you have an effective internal cooling system. Good for you!

I sweat more than average too. I'll take a cold shower after my run and still be sweating for an hour after.

It is what it is. However for me, sometimes I get into the danger zone when my sweat is very salty and leaves a crusty film all over my skin. That's a sign of dehydration. But soft, smooth sweat is perfectly normal and healthy.

I sweat like a beast too. I do work super hard, but people assuming I'm killing myself doing it. I'm not, but I do push myself. Guess we are just a "lucky" few who get to always enjoy a shower afterwards. :)
  • I sweat most during step class and I do push myself as hard as possible during all of my classes, some of the ladies just seem to bounce out of the room all fresh as a daisy lol ! Ok so I'm a sweat machine!!! Lol love it love it!

Actually, this is bro science. Salt content of sweat isn't an indicator of dehydration.

Strong coiencidence then, because I had a couple of days over the summerr (usually hours after my run) where I wasn't really sweating much, my skin was covered in salt, also wrinkled, i was experiencing confusion, etreme thirst and stomach upset. On normal days my face is just wet, not crusty.

Although maybe the key is that I really wasn't that sweaty just covered in salt.

I also sweat a lot!!! I had actually read an article that said the more your body gets used to working out it starts to recognize what it needs to prepare for and that you can actually start to sweat more. I guess that's one of the only "positives" to sweating more!
