Concussion?

Today I got a pretty minor concussion when one of my students accidentally kicked a ball at my head and hit me in the face. Does anyone know when I can go back to the gym?

Did you really have a concussion? A concussion implies that you were knocked out, extremely dazed, have trouble concentrating and remembering things. Most likely you had a minor closed head injury. If so, you can go back to the gym whenever you feel able. If you truly had a concussion, you will want to take some time off.

    Some return to play guidelines:

Yes, I did not lose consciousness but I was told by a medical professional that I have a mild concussion. I had slightly blurred vision, an awful headache, nausea and a bit of a hard time finding some words in my brain.

Thanks for the response, my symptoms seem to be gone as of this afternoon. :-)

Since a concussion is a BRAIN INJURY, don't you think you should ask your doctor this question?

yeah, probably, but I can't really afford a copay right now. I'll just give it a week or so.

its usually between a week to 6 weeks depending on severity, but you really should be asking a doctor this question. you can probably call and ask a doctor without having to pay a copay and you should at least try before returning to the gym. you have to heal first. even a mild concussion can carry a risk of long term damage if you do not take the time to heal.

I would take at least a year off any exercise and maybe join some sort of self help group, that or grow a pair

A doctor would give you the best advice. Other than that, take it slow and see how you feel. I have had 2 concussions. The first time I tried to go on like normal immediately after the incident, but then I started to get really confused and trouble with words. I don't believe I exercised for several weeks, mainly because the injury turned out to be serious enough for me to be on workers comp. So please proceed with caution, because this is your brain.

You won't be able to afford a cup off coffee if you screw up your brain because you did further damage by not healing properly, consequently making you unemployable. See a doctor.

Come on mate, there was a footballer(man city) who played a game with a broken neck, see a doctor because he got hit with a ball? for crying out loud

if you watch any real impact sports such as rugby league union, many times players are hit on the head, have ten minutes then back out playing, granted they are check over by a doctor first, so back to point don't risk yourself unless a doctors gives u the OK

+2 seriously it is your health and brain you are talking about, don't risk a more serious complication by asking randoms about serious medical issues.

If it happened on the job, you may be covered by worker's compensation that will help offset your copay issue. You really need to speak with a doctor about this.
