Anyone else have trouble consuming enough calories?

I eat a lot of whole raw natural foods. Most have few calories.
I've been trying to eat different stuff than I would usually eat. Such as bread which contains more calories than the herb salad I usually eat. A huge herb salad is full of nutrients. But, extremely low on calories.
So it's really hard to meet anything close to 1200.
Anyone else have this problem?

I have this issue after my period, but during it and the week before I am eating whatever I can get my hands on :-)
  • Well hate to break it to you but as a 21 year old man you should be eating a hell of a lot more than 1200 calories.

No i dont have this problem if i am under 1200 calories it is because my stomach decided to quit on me or because i chose to not eat enough.

Tessloowhoo, It all depends on his goal. I'm assuming since he's trying to get an allotted amount of 1200 calories, he's trying to lose weight.

I'm on a ketogenic diet so I have no problem hitting calorie intake for the day as my macros are set for 60/30/10 (Fat/Protein/Carbs) Fat grams equal to about 9 calories a piece compared to about 4 calories a piece for protein or carbs. What are your percentages averaging out to on your daily intake?

That's simply not true. If you're not eating the right foods then 1200 calories is pretty easy. I mean sure I can scarf down 3 pieces of pizza, some breadsticks and a few cups of coke and be above and beyond the 1200.
My point is, a big salad of pure herbs such as spinach, arugula, red leaf lettuce, parsley, cilantro along with some other greens served with a little bit of Italian dressing isn't going to run me more than 100 calories, but it gives plenty of actual vitamins and minerals that I wouldn't get with a regular restaurant style salad packed with calorie rich ranch, croutons and cheese among other things.

Nuts, oils, avocado, dates, figs, bananas, raw honey, cold smoked salmon..

And yes 1200 isn't enough for a man, 1800 is the lowest you should go.
