All activity like that will benefit you, but ultimately you need to eat fewer calories than you burn each day to shed the pounds.0

She is so right.. just focus on eating right, drinking more water and staying active. Start portioning out your foods and measuring. You just cant judge by your eyes. You can do this one to two pounds a week. I am in the same boat as you.0 -
Baby steps. Start off walking that hill, move on to walking up and down it twice. Cut down on sodas/candy/chips. Track calories, eat lean meats, veggies and fruits. You can do this.0

This...Also if you can't afford an HRM right now, bring your smart phone with you and download a walking app. I use RunKeeper. It has a GPS device in it and will tell you how far you walked and give an estimate on calorie burn.0 -
Thread title caught my eye since I just did precisely what you are aiming for - lost 60lbs in a year.
I'm a guy, so weight loss is perhaps a little different for me, but I'd say it's attainable, so long as you actually are 60+ lbs overweight, of course!
The hill walk is a good start, but you might want to look at some beginner running programs. I started with walking, and then did the C25k program. Without much working out you may find the calorie restriction very onerous, which reduces your chance of sticking with it.
I also recommend keeping your protein high, and doing some sort of resistance training. Free weights (barbells/dumbbells) are best, but honestly anything where you are working against significant resistance will do you good. It will focus your weight loss on fat, and spare your muscle, leaving you looking much better and better prepared to maintain your weight afterwards. Don't worry about 'getting bulky' - that won't happen on a deficit, and takes way more work and dedication for a female than the average person will be able to put in.
Best of luck.0 -
I have lost over 60lbs this year, so you can do it by next summer safely. Make smart choices. Start with climbing the hill and cutting the soda. Then up the nutrition and exercise as you feel ready.
Use the calorie counter. Use the fitness tracker. Seeing your progress and having help seeing the benefit of your choices calories and fitness you will get how to balance your life.
I do most of my activities outside. Started walking in January. Now doing some serious local hikes.0 -

Agree with all previous comments. I would really highlight water, water, water! Yes, you'll get tired of plain water pretty quickly, so I flavor mine with some fruit or a splash of juice. Try fixing a pitcher of ice water with some slices of oranges, lemons, or limes and drink that throughout the day. Not only does the water help cleanse your system, but it also helps you feel full so you don't want to eat as much. You said you've already cut out soda, which is the biggest number one thing to eliminate, so congrats!0

I'm doing things a little slower. My stated goals, if achieved, will lead me to a 60 pound weight loss by the summer of 2015. I have to start a lot of good habits (like eating my meals at home instead of in restaurants, daily exercise, and so on) and the one-step-at-a-time approach works best for me! Good luck to you!0

It's actually quite difficult to develope a muscular build unless you are training hard and actually eating at a surplus...adding any kind of muscle bulk while in a calorie deficit is extremely unlikely, so don't even give that a second thought.
Also, want to agree with the person who suggested an exercise tracker if you have a smartphone. I use Runtastic (even for walks and hikes) and I love it! It's really motivating to see what youve accomplished and set goals to do "just a little more" next time.0
