Missed Meal: What To Do

I'm wondering what you do when you miss a meal. I eat three meals a day, and I split the calories fairly evenly between the three. So, when I miss a meal, I'm left to decide whether to eat more for my next meal or just eat what I normally would. If I do the latter, I'm usually under by 500 or so on my calories.

I don't usually miss a meal cause I make sure I eat majority of my calories daily. I'm always eating though so I don't really focus on just breakfast lunch n dinner.0

I don't usually miss a meal, either. But life throws some curveballs.0 -
Have a bigger meal if you want and are hungry, or have a snack later in the day. If you aren;t hungry and don't want more, then one day of being under won't hurt you.0

I would just eat normally. If you find that you are still hungry later, have a healthy snack.0

This is how life is. Someday in the future you're going to be over, too. It all comes out in the wash. Don't get too hung up in the Exact Science thing: it isn't, and it will make you miserable.0

Calorie timing doesn't really matter for weight loss. Stay within your 24 hour goals and you'll be fine. Eventually you could even track weekly.0

I agree with this answer. Listen to your body. Don't eat for the sake of eating, but if you're hungry from missing that meal then use the calories.0 -
I may or may not eat 1 or 2 servings of ice cream when that happens! :bigsmile:0

if you can leave it without crashing and burning and eating half the house at 10pm, go for it. I can't.
I actually have a protein bar for lunch when I can, simply because it's easy. If I don't eat for too long I get the shakes.0 -
Usually I just eat a snack and slightly bigger meals to get up to goal. Sometimes I'm under though.0

Well you should eat your calories every day give or take 50-100 calories.
Because if you don't and the scale starts moving up or down too much / too little and you want to adjust you have nothing to base a decision on.0 -

Probably this. If this is something that does not happen often, you could handle it either way depending on how hungry you are.0 -
Thanks for the feedback. My sleep schedule has been a mess lately. And it has caused me to miss some meals.0

I missed dinner on Friday - I went with work colleagues to the pub after work to play pool (and have a drink).
I was a bit worried about missing a meal, but I remembered I had a bag of dried fruit and nuts with me, so I ate the bag - 350 calories. It was a nice one, with lots of dates and almonds.
It sorted my hunger out perfectly, I had another glass of wine (!), a few pints of water, then a banana before bed, and all was well.
So - make sure you've got a healthy, portable snack with you, just in case you're in a pinch, and you never need worry.
Edit: I forgot to mention - the place with pool also had bar food: burgers, fries, onion rings etc - so if I didn't have the snack bag I might have caved and had something greasy I didn't want just because I was hungry.0 -
If I miss a meal by accident or on purpose I just count it as IF and move on!0
