body fat 40%??

I joined a gym a few days ago and they took my body fat and it came back as 40%, the trainer didnt think it was right but could it have been???
im 19
5 foot 8 and weigh 147 pounds, and i have a bmi of 22

They took your body fat, but they didn't think it was right. Hmm, if they're not even confident that their measurements are correct :-)
40% body fat is a lot, don't think you can have that with a BMI of 22.0 -

yeah with the stats you mentioned 40% seems far too much of an over estimate0

My BF routinely comes in around 40%. This is on a scale that uses MR, which is notoriously inaccurate for certain body types, but I believe it in my case. My BMI is floating right around 30. So I would guess they have no clue how to use their calipers or are using another notoriously inaccurate method.0

Did they measure it with scales? Apparently if your dehydrated too they can make the reading a lot worse.
If they did it with callipers then I wouldnt be trusting that trainer to write a program!0
