Dropped the weight, need to tone up and get in shape!

Hello MFP! :flowerforyou:

I am in an on-again off-again relationship with taking care of myself. This is an attempt at committing to a long-term relationship with myself, my fitness, and my health.

My background:
After high school, i started eating whatever was easy: Applebees, Wendy's, Tim Hortons, Pizza. And i packed on the pounds. I got up somewhere near 200 (i was scared to look) when my Grandma finally told me the truth: "Carmen, You're fat."

:frown:

So i lost some weight, started becoming more active, then got in this cycle. I would hoover around 145 (138 was a victory) all the while trying to stay active and trying to eat right. My loving boyfriend and i debate regularly whether it's eating right or working out that will cause weight loss. I used to think i could workout and lose the weight, but he won this argument this last time. I am now at 128 due strictly to not eating so d*** much food. But i don't like my body. The scale # makes me happy, but looking in the mirror, and trying on clothes, does not. I still have my padding from being near 200. I want to start working out more.
But I'm sure you've all heard the same excuses, "I don't have time, i'm tired, i'm in school, i have a long commute, etc etc etc"
I'm sick of feeling like crap about myself. I'm sick of longingly staring at runners as i drive by, then looking down at my thighs as a tear falls across my cheek. (I've been injured multiple times - sprained ankle, torn hip muscle thing, sprained knee - and i never seem to be able to stay motivated throughout).

And that brings me here. Looking for motivation. Looking for support, and help, and accountability.

Nice to meet you all! Good luck, best wishes, and lets go kick some *kitten*!

Sounds awesome, and congrats on your weight loss, you have proven you can do that so I am sure fitness improvment shouldn't pose any problems for you. I am a beginner runner who has been struggeling bad for the past year with it but I finally feel like I am getting the hang of things so if you are interested in running feel free to friend me :) .

    Hi there!

I've been battling the same 20lbs for years and I'm finally getting near my goal weight but like you feel the need to tone up. I was down to 118lbs three years ago but I did not lose the weight the healthy way and it slowly piled back on. This past March I was barely fitting into my size 8's (first size I went down to when I started losing weight) and I figured it was time to get in gear or admit defeat and go shopping for some size 10's. I started C25K and could barely run 5 minutes and now I can run a 10K pretty easily. It's been slow going and I've had set backs but I'm finally down to the last 10lbs. Like you though I find that while I've lost I don't have much tone in my body. I know it's time to start some strength training but I keep avoiding it. Maybe we can help each other get off our butts! ;)
