Toning? How do you do it?

So I understand that toning is a combination of maintaining muscle and losing fat thanks to everyone's responses on my previous thread and this website: http://www.aworkoutroutine.com/muscle-tone/
I know that in order to lose fat I have to combine cardio with a proper diet and a calorie deficient but how do I maintain the muscle? What kind of workouts are you doing to maintain the muscle you currently have. What is the best way to maintain muscle?

Is lifting the only way?0

eating sufficient protein is a large factor as well as heavy lifting.0

If you want to maintain muscle but lose fat just eat about 140g+ of protein a day and cut your calories to 1500. That should do it.0

moderate calorie deficit to lose the fat + sufficient protein with heavy lifting and/or HIIT to retain muscle.0

You don't need cardio to lose fat, not saying there no benifits from cardio.

The way these girls train, they can build muscle while still getting the same benifits of cardio. Cardio burns both fat and muscle.0 -

If you want to incorporate weights ....household objects can be used (if you don't have any) .... milk jugs, cans, etc.0 -

This is an awesome example of how lifting is beneficial to women wanting to lose fat, gain strength and tone/tighten up. Thanks for sharing! Love it.0 -
I monitor my powerlifting calories burnt with my FitBit and then make sure I eat-back my exercise calories that I burnted.0
