Reasons for a plateau?

This word gets used quite a bit on here!
If one is eating at a deficit and working out well and generally following MFP as it should why does a plateau occur???
Say a 3 week one. If you've burnt 10500 calories less than you've eaten over 3 weeks why would you not lose 1.5 pounds?
Just curious.

I just had a two week plateau, but kept at it and started losing pounds again this week. Just keep doing what you're doing and the weight will come off eventually. I know it's frustrating, but good luck!0
