Pregnancy 2 part Question

Hi!
1. I'm pregnant with my second, first baby I worked out a lot, yoga, personal trainer, weights. I was never a runner until last year. I have heard several different opinions from several different doctors (1 my own doctor and 2 friends that are doctors but not OBGYN's) as well as my mother who is an RN and opinions of friends. Some say no running at all, others say run but keep your heart-rate under 140 and others say since I have been running for a while now that heart-rate doesn't matter and to go ahead and do what is comfortable. What is your opinion and why?
2. I lost 30 pounds and in the last 4/6 months I gained about 10-15 pounds (was not pregnant while gained weight). Now that I am newly expecting my doctor recommended a 2000 calorie diet. Should I be strict about this? Do I make myself eat 2000 calories even if I am not hungry anymore?

Thank you!

Look if your doctor says that you should eat that many calories and he/she will know all about you and your situation, I would assume he/she made that assessment based on what is best for you and your baby. Us anonymous internet strangers just can't compete with that ... perhaps at your next check up you should check about the running as there might be more to it then just your heart rate.

There will be people on this website who ran all throughout their pregnancy and just stopped briefly to give birth, there will be others whose pelvis opened prematurely at 25 weeks and who could hardly walk from the bed to the toilet (yes, that would be me). We simply don't know enough about your situation and history to say 'your doctor/friends/mother etc are wrong ... you should only listen to us'

Well I wasn't trying to get information on my situation, if that was the case I would have given you my medical records. I simply was asking what the opinion of others was on calories and running, since everyone does something different during pregnancy, and not everyone listens to their doctors advice, who says heart-rate does not matter when I have read other studies that say otherwise for several different reasons.
    Gracias!

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and have kept up with my fitness the entire time so far. I would definitely listen to your doctor re: the calorie range. What I've been doing here on MFP is to eat to maintain and then eat back the calories I burn during exercise. This has helped me to actually gain weight slowly enough. I'm not super duper strict on a daily basis, sometimes I don't eat a ton and others I eat spot on and yet other days I'm over. Just do your best each day and as long as your check-ups are looking alright you should be good (again, I'm not a doctor but this is how I've been doing it and both me and baby are a-okay at this point).

As for running, again, your doc would definitely have to give you approval there, but generally speaking as long as you're a low-risk pregnancy and were running regularly before you got pregnant you can continue running throughout your pregnancy. Definitely listen to your body and NO speed work or endurance runs but regular lower intensity runs are totally fine if you were doing it beforehand. I personally was doing a TurboFire/ChaLEAN Extreme hybrid program before I got pregnant and now I'm doing a modified Les Mills Pump/Combat program and have been doing just fine!

I've only heard of having to keep your heart rate low for special medical conditions. When I was pregnant, I was told to continue my fitness regimen, which included running and some light to medium weight lifting. I continued that until about the fifth month when it just started getting uncomfortable to run, and I was worried about injuring myself.

Unless you feel that your doctor gave you a 2000 calorie requirement for a specific reason, I don't think you have to do it. Given, I am not a doctor, nor do I know you, but mine told me that I don't even have to increase my calorie intake above maintenance until the second trimester. Even then, it's only raised about 300 calories. But if I were you, I would just do what my doctor said so my conscience is clear. If you want a different answer, maybe it's time to see a different doctor?

We can give opinions but keep in mind most of us aren't doctors

    Here's what I know.
3 years ago I ran the San Francisco marathon with 2 women, they we both 7 1/2 months pregnant. They we running slow but they were running. Both their Docs said it was fine and to just listen to their bodies.

Also, from what I read you do not need to eat over your maintenance until the second trimester and that is only by 250-300 calories above it.

If you are active then 2000 calories is not far fetched and probably around your maintenance. Wether you want to keep running and exercising is up to you, your body and your doctor!
