I live in Maryland and am interested in training for a half marathon next year. I was wondering if anyone had a really good experience with a particular race in that area they would suggest for a first timer?
Thanks
Thanks

I'm in for anybody who has ideas - I live in MD (DC suburbs) as well.
I'm considering the Rock and Roll Half/Full next March - http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/usa. A friend did this event in another city and had a good experience.
Eventually, I'd like to do the full Marine Corp one in Arlington, even if the idea intimidates me.0 -

Well, I am shooting for the DC Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April. It is a lottery so you have to pray you get picked but it is supposed to be a great race.
RNR DC is on my list if I don't get in to the Cherry Blossom. I am not wildly enthused as RNR isn't my favorite race organization but I do love DC.
In a few weeks they should be posting when the Nike Womens Half will be held in DC. Tiffany necklaces handed out by firefighters??! Yes please!
The Iron Girl does a decent half there, I wasn't wildy enamored of the course as it could have been much better but the race itself was great and the swag was nice!
I really recommend the Baltimore Running Festival. It is in the Fall but I ran their 10k and LOVED it.0 -
Thanks! If anyone has any they would suggest not going to let me know that too!0

The 17.75k put on by the MCM series event people guarantees you entry in to the MCM that October. It is ran in Prince William County with about 2900 people.
I am registered to run it in 2014 (after a spider bite turned in to an infection that showed me I am deathly allergic to some penicillin forms meant that I am not running it this year) though I registered for it this year and registration was a NIGHTMARE.0 -
If you want a nice, flat race, then the B&A Trail run is great. Very flat, but not many people on the sides cheering. It's also not very crowded. I've also done the Baltimore Half. Very fun race, but very hilly. Tons of people cheering you on there and lots of runner suport. In April I did the Iron Girl Half. Nice race with great support and lots of fun. A bit hilly as well, but most of Maryland has hills. :-)
I know others recommended it and it is beautiful, but the crowds at the Cherry Blossom run are crazy. I didn't even get to the starrting line of the race before the first runners had already started their second mile.
I've also gone to Virginia Beach for the Shamrock marathon. That one is a lot of fun. Great support and the last mile is along the boardwalk.
Enjoy!0
