I went through that when I was 1/2 traditional vegan and 1/2 raw vegan. Just be what you are and embrace it.

Vegan here! Was a vegetarian for 16 years before that.
I've never had the flu, my blood pressure is spot on as are my blood glucose levels. Before going from vegetarian to vegan I suffered with a few spots on my face, since going vegan my skin is fantastic! I'm 33 next but still get asked for ID...
While living in Taiwan I had a full heart and vascular MOT (it's super cheap over there) the surgeon told me that by looking at my heart function through the various tests and exercises that I was involved in, he said that there is pretty much zero chance of me ever developing heart disease.
I (until 2012) threw javelin and swam for my county (which sticks a finger up at the morons that say vegans are weak) :drinker:

Most importantly, I feel I can sleep at night knowing that I am not contributing to suffering and have less of a negative impact on the earth by being vegan.

Have I sold it enough yet?

PS - These kind of threads tend to escalate quickly in to a big pile of bollocks due to the "we're meant to eat meat" brigade.

    Each to their own :flowerforyou:

I can imagine a lot of veggies and vegans padding out their diets with loads of bread, pasta and the like. If people each too much and consume too many calories and dont move around enough they will gain weight...

PS - there are loads of chocolates that are vegan friendly.

This. I don't look frail. I'm VERY healthy. My hair and skin are wonderful. I have energy. I never get sick (granted, I never got sick for years when I ate meat). And I have yet to go anywhere that I couldn't find something to eat.

Sorry. I misread. I am not vegan.

However, I have a lot of friends who are and they are fine.

    Hey Veganlexi,

I am on a weight loss journey and I am eating vegan during the week and having a cheat day on Saturday, I am tryig not to get bored with the veggies and I also don't want to eat too much soy because of the reports that too much will effect women negatively. Do you have any advice on how I can keep it interesting on a budget?

Have a look at my diary, we get a large box of organic vegetables once a week from www.abelandcole.co.uk and other goodies such as organic tofu, organic wholewheat linguini and bits like that. I eat pretty much 100% organic.

I usually have a couple of slices of toast for breakfast, in the winter ill have some organic porridge made with rice milk.
Lunch is usually a stir fry with bean curd or tofu or a homemade vegetable pie with a mashed potato topping
Dinner varies day to day :)

Here's my Instagram, there are pics of my dinners on there to give you an idea. I get my protein from my veg, bread, tofu, vegan steak (wheat protein) and hemp protein powder.

    Vegan here
I am proof you can be vegan and overweight. I think it is the amount of food. I don't eat anything animal based, minimal fats and only Ezekial Bread once or twice a week.
I was vegetarian for over 35 years and switched to vegan 8 months ago after suffering with esophageal spasms for the past 5 years.
The biggest challenge was giving up bread...I feel much better as a vegan though.
  • Mostly vegetarian but I do eat fish a few times a month.

    This.

And I don't eat what my SO tells me to eat. I eat what I want to eat. And I don't eat what I don't want to eat.

Vegetarian for 10 years here. Hoping to go vegan someday, but dairy keeps getting the better of me! I was actually aiming for vegan and at least 50% raw by the end of this year, but greek yogurt and cheese keep telling me "NO". :| Haha. Working on it, though! Glad to see other veggies out there. :)
  • happy to see other veggies here. fat veggies are cuz they eat crap meatless food, thin veggies are cuz they eat the good stuff :)

I completely agree. And I've never been healthier in my life. I'm in my late 40's but feel much better than when I was a young meat-eater. At my last doctor's appointment, the doctor told me how good my vegetarian lifestyle is.

You can get fat eating "the good stuff." It isn't about the what, it's about the how much.

Know how much fat and how many calories are in an avocado?
