I am training for a half-marathon that will be in early November and would be interested in adding any "new" friends that is currently training for one themselves or would be intersted in training for one. Just looking for individuals that can share advice and help keep each other motivated. Thanks to hiking this summer and running the last 1 1/2 months I am already up to running between 9 and 10 miles and don't expect the half-marathon to be a problem but new friends that can lend advice and help me stay motivated would be awesome!

I am thinking about doing one maybe next fall. I am a beginner at running now and getting married in the spring so I don't want to be killing myself just yet. I would be interested in watching your journey though
  • My first one is in three weeks! If you're already up to 9 or 10 mi that's great. I did my first 10 miler 3 weeks ago, been increasing the long run each week.

I just started running in June, have done four 5k's this summer and have a 10K planned for the week before the HM. I can say I'm actually ready for it now! I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to work my way up, but I have.

Are you following some kind of plan? I've just loosely based mine, knowing I need a long run each week and I must increase it.

I also use MapMyFitness and they have training plans on there. I've "enrolled" in one for a half-marathon but think I'll have a hard time following their plan exactly. My schedule fluctuates each week depending on my work schedule. My wife and I spend the better part of the summer getting back in shape and doing a lot of hiking and biking. That allowed my legs to get really strong which is why I have been able to run long distances in such a short period of time. I know that I have to work on my core and upper body strength to help make it through the half-maration without too may problems.

I am going to just play it by ear each week making sure I get in at least three runs...one long, one for speed and one at an increased tempo...and then lift weights at least twice a week to strengthen my core and upper body. I should be ready for the race by November but want to make sure I don't encounter any problems in the last couple of miles.

My goal is to get to Half Marathon status. I started out with C25K at the start of summer (before that I was lucky fi I could run around the block)
Completed my 1st 5K the beginning of this month
I am currently doing 10K training 3 days a week and lifting 3 days a week
I have my first 10K in November and then I will be in Half Marathon mode!

Feel free to add me if you like :-)

I am up to 5.8 miles - last night it was at about a 9 min/mile pace - but honestly, I am going more for distance than speed at this time :-)

That 9 min mile pace is better than mine at this point. My long runs are at about a 10 min mile run while my up-tempo runs are around 9 min mile so you are doing awesome!
