phone app for basic strength training?

I'm at goal, walk regularly, maintained for a couple of months. I'd like to add some strength training in to give myself some new goals. Just things I can do at home. I have a small kettlebell, a basic "all in one" exercise machine that I could do some basic things with, and of course push up, plank, situp, squat, etc type stuff.

I really need something to follow though - a day to day plan or just a general idea of do these things. I'd particularly like to work on some toning of arms, backside, and waist. I'm satisfied with my weight loss and body (lost 40 pounds since January) - just want to tone up a little.

Are there any apps for the iphone that are handy? Or a good free web program I could follow? I know when I used to have a gym membership I had a card that I could follow - it worked legs on day 1, arms on day 2, etc and then I slowly inremented weights as I went along to keep it more challenging.

That does look like what I'm talking about it .. will see if anyone has feedback too.
  • If you are looking to mostly do bodyweight exercuses then google You Are Your Own Gym. I don't think it will be 100% free, but nothing major. Just a book to buy or something.
  • The MCT is also an app on phones.. not sure how it works yet.. phone dead!

Oh just remembered... I have a PDF copy of You Are Your Own Gym.. message me your email and I will send it over :)

If you're interested in using 5X5 strong lifts, there's an accompanying app - all free.

Jefit has many programs that you can download for it, or else customize your own workout. Free and very good. Do a google search for jefit kettleball routine and it will give you a bunch of routines you can d/l for the app.

I second the suggestion of You Are Your Own Gym. Best $2.99 I ever spent!

If you search through the app store on your phone for Azumio you'll end up with quite a few results. Scroll through them until you see ones that are body part specific. Each one is free and each one contains numerous exercises and explanations of those exercises as well as loads of workout routines to try out. It even lets you choose what equipment you want to use for those workouts, some are bodyweight only whilst others will use dumbbells or resistance bands.

Jefit is a great app. It has several programmes you could use. There's a 5x5, a beginners split programme, etc etc.

Or you can programme it with programmes you want to follow. I use and adapted 5x5 that way, or you could put NROLW in there.
