Is my scale broken?

Today I step on the scale and it read that I lost 0.3lbs (yay!), so I stepped on the scale again, for good measure, and it said I was the same as yesterday (boo!). THEN, just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I stepped on again, and then it read that I GAINED 1.2lbs from yesterday! (what?!). Then for a fourth time, after carefully stepping on, once again, it said I gained 5lbs (now I'm really confused!) How can I have a ~6lb fluctuation in the span of two minutes?????

If you have an electronic scale that uses strain gauges, you are probably positioning your feet somewhat differently each time you step on the scale. That might account for small variations. The 5 lb. difference is more puzzling. Did you move the scale at all? Another possibility is that the scale is on an uneven surface, which can affect its accuracy.

Either that or the elves inside the scale are messing with you.

Yeah, that happened to me a few days ago. I changed the batteries and it started acting like a normal scale again. lol
