I went tanning two days ago and got a burn, the burn is gone but I am sososo SO itchy. It's driving me crazy. When I don't itch, it hurts and when I itch, it just ends up itching more.
I have no idea what to do, nothing is helping it. I'm pretty much in tears its so bad :((

Not sure if you tried this but Lotion,Lotion,Lotion. If that doesnt help try some aloe vera lotion. You know the kind that you put on sunburns. That has lots of vitamins in it to help heal the skin. Hope it stops soon!

in all seriousness...that happened to me once...not tanning...the itchiness that made you want to cry thing... it was because i was taking codeine. so maybe your allergic to something and its just a coincidence that you just tanned.
  • Try an oatmeal bath. You can buy colloidal oatmeal in the bath soaps section of the pharmacy. Soak in the tub for 10 minutes or more. Aveeno makes great products for itchy skin.

Lots of calamine lotion let it dry on you if ou are staying in....wash in Luke warm to cool water....good luck, tell the salon ou tanned at that they need to clean the bed a lot better!

\An itch may occur from a reduced rate of melanin production in a particular area of the body, usually the stomach, chest, or other areas that have had minimal exposure to sunlight or tanning for a prolonged period. This may occur between the 3rd and 5th tanning session for most people, is normally temporary, and more of a nuisance than a real problem. This is usually a result of overstimulation of the nerve endings.

It is best to tan no more than every other day and build up tanning exposure time gradually, to give the skins' melanin, in normally unexposed areas, time to catch up with those areas always exposed outside, like the face and hands.

Like someone else suggested, put some aloe on it.

Itching is good...that means it is healing....just like when you have a cut and it `scabs` over then it itches then it means it is getting better.

But use sun lotion next time or if a tanning booth then stay away....lots of fake tan you can use :-) with no itching!

I've found that a half & half mixture of white vinegar & water can help. Just soak a few paper towels in it, wring 'em out & just lay them on your skin. If you're able to add a few drops of tea tree oil, it will be even better. good luck! :flowerforyou:

A cup or two of vinegar in bathwater is a traditional home remedy for itchy skin or the oatmeal bath should help too.

May want to take some benadryl and it could also be a reaction to any lotion you used/bronzer.

The Aveeno anti-itch products work miracles, i've found.

I once had a similar problem from natural sun and found I was allergic to Paba. Many many people are, so it's not often an ingredient anymore, but worth checking the ingredients.

I'm actually mildly allergic to sunlight (no I am not a vampire). I break out in hives when I've been in the sun for as little as 3 minutes, and itch like crazy. A fair-skinned friend of mine - who only burns - taught me a trick that sounds crazy, but it works. Put the affected area under HOT water...as hot as you can stand it. It will pull the heat OUT of your skin, and cause all the little endorphin things to come running to the rescue to calm the skin. I also put Benadryl gel (not ointment, which tends to trap the heat) on the area, when hot water is not convenient.

I'll also recommend against tanning beds. It really is damaging to your skin.

My assumption is that you have already used lotion. I am allergic to aloe vera and IT makes me itch! Be careful! If nothing else you can get straight glycerin lotion (corn-huskers lotion) at the drugstore - seems to help me. Try not to scratch as that can lead to scarring and posible skin damage/infection. Ice can help and you can always try benedryl.

i cannot recommend taking medication because I am not a doctor
interesting enough, antihistamines can relieve itching whether related to allergies or not
  • Yeah it was the first time I've ever used a tanning bed. I have fair skin, but apparently 4 minutes was enough to burn me. I don't plan on ever doing it again. Its not worth it.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm probably going to up end up trying them all. I'm going nuts

don't mix products on your skin you could have a reaction to that and make it worse

I know a girl that had the same problem. It was HHV2
  • So this has happened to me a couple times. It's not from dirty beds. Chances are that you burned. I actually just did that to myself by accident. So freaking itchy it's awful and painful and just terrible! Nothing seems to work either. Oatmeal baths, lotion, after sun aloe lotion, etc.
So this is what I found in my research while trying to just get through this.
Sarna is what one person said. Shower with an unscented body wash and dry off really well, apply sarna. They said if you stay in AC that it works better.
I've also seen benadryl which is what i'm gonna head to the store for soon, and using a lotion without retinol (vitamin A) in it because it makes the skin peal off?Someone said lotion every fifteen min for an hour.
