Funny how you learn to view food differently....

I always buy cookie dough from my co-workers (they sell it for their kid's school fund raisers). I would normally bake up a batch, eat a couple while they are still hot and then eat a few more once they've cooled down. Easily eating 4 - 8 cookies per night.

I brought some cookie dough home 3 months ago and its been sitting in my freezer ever since! I NEVER looked at the nutritional info on them until then and I just can't bring myself to eat ONE little tiny cookie for 160 calories! I don't mind indulging in treats now and then, but it has to be something WORTH those calories.

One tiny cookie? Or a big bowl of Greek yogurt with fruit or almond butter? I'll take the yogurt!

I just got some fundraiser cookie dough myself! I baked some for the kids, but I didn't touch a single one! 130 calories in each cookie for the tub I bought. That is crazy!! I agree with you. I would rather eat my calories on something tasty and healthy.

It's crazy to me when I see a weight-loss show and they weigh the contestants. They are usually guessing at what they weigh and really have no clue. Then all of a sudden it's crying and moaning when they realize they're 50 lbs heavier then they thought. They avoid scales like the plaque because they just don't want to know. It goes away if you don't pay attention to it.

The same is true for nutrition labels. There are people who go out of their way to avoid seeing the numbers because if they don't know how bad it is for them they don't have to feel as pathetic about it as they should.

You can't have perspective without information, and you can't make choices either. That's the truth of it. These people don't want to deal with the responsability of making the choice, so they blind themselves on purpose.

You're right though. It's happened plenty of times that I chose not to eat something because it was so small and just not worth the numbers it would add. People don't realize that in the end it's actually EMPOWERING to have the information and know that YOU'RE in control of what goes in your body and you CAN control your weight if you make the choices you need to make.

I second the comments. I try to make healthier choices especially if I know I will blow them on unneccessary foods!

Now if only someone would have a bake sale fundraiser - you could bake up the cookies without having to eat them... you'd be helping double - buying the dough and then selling the cookies.... if only it were that easy!

Nothing feels worse than eating something that isn't worth the calories.

I totally agree! Great topic! I do believe in allowing myself treats in moderation, but some "treats" aren't worth it!! Sure they taste good, but there are plenty of other healthier treats that are just as tasty. I'd rather eat delicious, healthy versions of treats (usually home-made). There are some things I haven't had in months and I don't feel deprived at all!

I love that quote and will save it!! I also did not want to know how many calories I was eating, then they wouldn't count, right? Now with MFP and counting every calorie, your can't even fool yourself!!

I've noticed that I'd been serving myself very large portions at home in the past, and now that I eat smaller portions I'm still getting full. I haven't changed much about my cooking habits, but I do have more leftovers to eat for lunch during the week now.

Yes, amazing that the small portions are actually enough if you give them a chance! I eat oatmeal almost daily during the week and I can't use more than 1/4 cup of oats; it's SO filling! (of course, it's paired with a healthy protein too! )

One reason I like MFP is it gives you a real life, in your face approach to calories taken in and calories burned.

Once you start paying attention it really does give you a different view.

Yeah, I bought 3 tubs of cookie dough from my kids fundraiser the week before I decided to change my life for the better. $44.00 wasted. I plan on baking a bunch and sending them back to school for sweet treat donations for the fall carnival and making the rest to send out in tins for Christmas.
